Adoration Moment "As a man must be born before he can begin to lead his
physical life, so he must be born to lead a Divine Life.
That birth occurs in the Sacrament of Baptism. To
survive, he must be nourished by Divine Life; that is
done in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist." -
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” LUKE 11:9
Jesus assures us that if we ask, God will take care of what we need. The problem is that our culture often confuses
what we really need with what we simply want. Many people need very little. However, we usually want so much
more. A good steward only asks God for what he needs.
Welcome Visitors Thank you for visiting our church. If you are in the area
visiting friends or family, may your visit be joy-filled. We
pray for your safe travel home. If you live in the area
and are searching for a church to call home, we would
be pleased to meet with you and answer your ques-
tions.

with a free community supper at the Point. Volunteers
of all ages and ability levels are needed for service pro-
jects throughout the community. Sign-up sheets are in
the Gathering Space. If you already have a Love War-
road t-shirt from last year, please wear it for the Au-
gust event. If you are in need of a t-shirt, please indi-
cate on the sign-up sheet.
Save the date!! The Sisters of Saint Benedict are concluding
our Centennial with a capstone event - a Mass on Sunday,
September 15th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston. We are hosting this
Mass to give thanks for and celebrate the wonderful support
we are so grateful for from all of our friends over these 100
years. A reception, with the gracious help of the Catholic
Daughters, will be held following the Mass. This liturgy can be
your Sunday obligation for the week.
ALL ARE INVITED TO ATTEND!
Asked and Answered: Scott Hahn Reflects on the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Readings:
Genesis 18:20–32
Psalm 138:1–3, 6–8
Colossians 2:12–14
Luke 11:1–13
Though we be “but dust and ashes,” we can presume to
draw near and speak boldly to our Lord, as Abraham dares
in this week’s First Reading.
But even Abraham—the friend of God (see Isaiah 41:8),
our father in the faith (see Romans 4:12)—did not know the
intimacy that we know as children of Abraham, heirs of the
blessings promised to his descendants (see Galatians 3:7, 29).
The mystery of prayer, as Jesus reveals to His disciples in this week’s Gospel, is the living
relationship of beloved sons and daughters with their heavenly Father. Our prayer is pure gift, made
possible by the “good gift” of the Father—the Holy Spirit of His Son. It is the fruit of the New Covenant
by which we are made children of God in Christ Jesus (see Galatians 4:6–7; Romans 8:15–16).
Through the Spirit given to us in Baptism, we can cry to Him as our Father—knowing that when we
call, He will answer.
Jesus teaches His disciples to persist in their prayer, as Abraham persisted in begging God’s mercy
for the innocent of Sodom and Gomorrah.
For the sake of the one just Man, Jesus, God spared the city of man from destruction (see Jeremiah
5:1; Isaiah 53), “obliterating the bond against us,” as Paul says in this week’s Epistle.
On the Cross, Jesus bore the guilt of us all, canceled the debt we owed to God, the death we
deserved to die for our transgressions. We pray as ones who have been spared, visited in our
affliction, saved from our enemies.
We pray always a prayer of thanksgiving, which is the literal meaning of the Eucharist. We have
realized the promise of this week’s Psalm: We worship in His holy temple, in the presence of angels,
hallowing His name.
In confidence we ask, knowing that we will receive, that He will bring to completion what He has done
for us—raising us from the dead, bringing us to everlasting life along with Him.
Parish Pastoral Council June 18, 2019
A joint meeting of Parish Pastoral Council and Parish Financial Council was held June 18, 2019.
Present at the meeting were Fr. Andrew Obel, pastoral council members, Lynn Erickson, Mary
Marvin, Andrew Dignan, Nancy Ellenson, and Lois Thiessen, finance council members Deb

some finance council members. Also present was parish secretary Jennifer Hilligoss.

clarifications made.

of the finance council to proceed with the survey that was quoted at $1300.
The matter of locking the church at night was discussed. We will get more information from a
local locksmith to research options and cost.
Bishop Hoeppner will present the staff, councils and trustees of the three parishes to Fr. Andrew
at his Installation June 22.
The need for a religious education coordinator was brought up. More discussion will be at next
meeting.
The next meeting for the Parish Pastoral Council is Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 6:15 pm.
