record 50 points in his team’s first 40 games and eclipsed former Capital Mike Green’s 43 game mark in 2008-09 (22g, 28a),

establishing a new franchise record among defensemen. Only five defensemen, including Carlson and Coffey, have recorded 50

points in 40 games since 1979-80 (Phil Housley, Brian Leetch and Al MacInnis).  Carlson is on pace for 102 points over an 82-game

season. Only five defensemen in NHL history have recorded more than 100 points in a season (Bobby Orr: six times; Paul Coffey:

five times; Denis Potvin, Al MacInnis and Brian Leetch: each once).

Holts 5x Star - Holtby will be making his fifth straight All-Star Game appearance. Holtby’s five All-Star Game selections is tied for the

second most in franchise history (Alex Ovechkin: 11; Peter Bondra and Rod Langway: 5) and the most by a Capitals’ goaltender.

Only three other active goaltenders have participated in at least five NHL All-Star Games (Montreal’s Carey Price: 6; New York’s

Henrik Lundqvist: 5; Vegas’ Marc-Andre Fleury: 5, named to 2020 Pacific Division team). Holtby has posted a record of 17-6-4 with a

2.95 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 28 games for the Capitals this season. The Lloydminster, Saskatchewan,

native is tied for third in the NHL in wins (17). Holtby has allowed two goals or fewer in 12 of his 28 games this season, with the

Capitals posting a record of 11-0-1 in those games.  Pacing the League – Through 40 games, the Capitals lead the NHL with 59 points, tied in goals for (140), tied for 12th in goals against(116), 11th on the power play (20.8 percent) and tied for second in penalty kill percentage (84.7 percent) in the NHL. The Capitals havewon the Presidents' Trophy as the NHL's top team three times in their franchise history (2009-10, 2015-16, 2016-17). Through 40games of each of those seasons, the Capitals rank second in points among those teams, four points shy of the 2015-16 team's total, which is the highest 40-game point total in franchise history.

The Capitals' 59 points through 40 games are the sixth-highest point total through 40 games by any team since 2015-16 and five pointsshy of the 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning (64 points) for the most during this span.
