4 | THE NEXT 10 - 2016 ALAUNUS, ACCELERATOR CENTRE Andrew Ringer is on a mission to revolutionize delivery of healthcare from days to minutes. His healthtech startup Alaunus, is creating an easy to use and practical management solution for home care, clinics and mobile providers allowing them to eliminate the countless hours and days they currently spend on paperwork and administration. With our population aging, the demand for home healthcare is increasing exponentially. In 2011, an estimated 5.0 million Canadians were 65 years of age or older, a number that is expected to double within the next 25 years. This puts new pressure on healthcare providers, who need to increase their efficiency to cope with the constant growing patient loads. “The healthcare industry is still very old school and paper oriented when it comes to technology,” explains Andrew. “Most home health care providers did not grow up in the technology generation, and still rely on inefficient paper-based processes. It’s causing them to lose money and impacting productivity.” Growing up, Andrew was always at his best friend’s house, spending his after school moments watching his friend’s mom, who is a nurse, work long hours filling out paperwork and completing administrative work. “She would complain about all this paperwork taking her hours to file. Sometimes she’d lose important documents. She absolutely hated it,” explains Andrew. As he embarked on entrepreneurship after graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University, he made it his personal mission to solve the challenge first hand. And so, Alaunus was born. Alaunus’ product is a simple to use mobile platform that allows caregivers to spend more time with their patients and less time with their paperwork (contracting, scheduling, billing and expenses). The company has already helped its clients shorten patient intake from 3-4 hours to just 10-15 minutes, and payroll from 4-5 days to 10-15 seconds. It is rapidly becoming the new go-to technology in the healthcare industry. Andrew is confident Alaunus can help the healthcare industry become more efficient and productive. Fueled by $250,000 pre- seed financing round, Alaunus was able to land its first few customers shortly after launching the business, and today, has thousands of care providers and patients using its platform. Andrew generously credits the Waterloo Accelerator Centre with helping him achieve the success he has realized to date. “Joining the AC was probably one of the best decisions for the growth and development of Alaunus,” says Andrew. “The exposure to all the mentors at the AC was incredible and they cannot be thanked enough. No one will fail or succeed because of the Accelerator Centre but it will give you the right tools to succeed faster and greater than you could on your own.” From Days to Minutes Alaunus Brings Big Benefit to Healthcare Delivery VIST: http://www.rtparkwatch.com/April 2016 for an extended version of this article. 4 | THE NEXT 10 - 2016 L to R: Jesse Lubin, Hemanth Kona, Andrew Ringer (Founder & CEO), Iegor Benzyk, Malik Ibrahim
