    'At 2 Timothy 1:13, 14 the

    apostle Paul admonished his fel-

low worker: "Keep holding the pat-

tern of healthful words that you

heard from me with the faith and

love that are in uonnection with

    Christ Jesus. This k e rust &ard

through the holy spirit which is

dwelling in us." What is a trust? It

is something of value that is com-

mitted to the care of a Derson who

cherish both the knowledge and thr

ministry of the truth. They wan

    tern of healthful .wordsHor what

we today usually refer to as, the

    truth. Obviously Paul wanted Tim.

othy to have a deep appreciation

for the truth. Sf he referred to it

    as a ' m e trust.

2 Did Paul mean that the Cqis-

tian trust consisted of just a knowl-

edge of the truth? No, it included

    also the ministry associated with

    the truth. These "healthful words"

needed to be preached both inside

    ,and outside of the congregation.

    Concerning such preaching, Paul

said: "Preach the word. be a t it ur-

1 When you read the 984 Year-

book, you will be thrilled with the

    annual report on the worldwide

    activities of Jehovah's Witnesses.

What joy is ours just to see the

    tangible results of Jehovah's rich

blessing on the united efforts of his

    dedicated people during the 1983

    service vear

    a ~ o n ggo Isaiah spoke propheti-

cally about our times and describedI

what we are privileged to experi-

ence today. In words of praise to

Jehovah he said: 'You have made

the nation populous; or it you have

    made the rejoicing great." (Isa.

9:3) Then in that same verse he

    proceeded to highlight further the

great rejoicing on the part of Je-

    hovah's people, saying: "They have

rejoiced before you as with the re-

joicing in the harvesttime, as those

who are joyful when they divide

up the s$oil." These words of Isa-

iah remind us of what Jesus said

about a ready harvest and the need

for workers in the field.-Matt. 9:

    35-38.

    3The report show;-that on an

    average 2,501,722 publishers were

    active throughout the year andthat

we reached a new pdak of 2,652,

    323. Both of these figures repre

sent a 7-percent increase over th

1982 se,rvice year. And just think

    PRESENTlNQ

    THE

    GOOD NEWS

siasticallv recommend i t to othe

    during .T&uuy. Listening close

    a Positi~e~ pproach

    A positive mental attitude con-

greatly to a happy and pro-

    ministry. When we

    rpreach

    good news, whether from house

house, on the streets or else-

we should do so expecting to

    with success. We should ap-

    each person, assuming that

is sheeplike aV heart or will a t

    to the Kingdom messagk.

    Jesus sent out his disciples,

    offered this counsel: "Wherever

enter into a house say first, 'May

    house have peace."" (Luke 10:

    6) They were not to prejudge as

    "a friend of

    peace" was in

    house or not. Apositive approach

may we display such a positive

    in our field ministry?

    SPE K WITH CONVICTION

way is to speak the truth

    conviction: We are preaching,

    just another religion, but the

thak leads to life We know

the future holds. We know the

    for man's present. dilemma

    what bonest-hearted ones must

    to learn the

    solution.

    This con-

will help us speak like the

    whose boldness even their

    Had to acknowledge. Note

    4:13, which says: "When they

    the outspokenness of Peter

    John, they began to recog-

about them that they dsed to

    with Jesus."

    Some publishers may feel they

not uahfied to preach the good

    k

    y may think they never

    become effective and experi-

    publishers.

    They may regard

    return visits or conducting

    studies as something, beyond

    abilities. However, such nega-

    thinking is counterproductive.

    how Jehovah corrected Jere-

    thinking and encouraged him.

1:7) So take a positive approach

    the preaching work, imitate

    prophets and the apostles, a@

    too, can become more effeetive

    proclaiming the good news.

    Our manneq of expressing our-

selves has much to do with reaching

the hearts of those who listen. Neg-

    ative expressians prompt negative

replies and so they do not reach a

person's heart or motivate him. Bet-

ter results will likely be achieved

    with more posltive statements such

as: "I am sure you see the value

of learning more about the Bi le."

Or: I would like to leave this gub

lication with you. I t is an excellent

Bible study ald and will certainly be

of value to you a ~ dour family."

    STRESS

    POSITIVE INFORM TION

    In witnessing, we often comment

    on the world's problems. But i t \ is

usually best to switch quickly to

God's solution and to a description

of the blessings that will replace the

troubles we see today. For example,

the tltle of the book being offered

this month is you Can Live Forever

    in

    Paradise on Earth.

    A

    positive ti-

tle The scriptures for the Topic for

    Conversation also present a positive

    view, namely: "Everlasting life is

possible" and "We can believe the B1-

ble." With such statements our pre-

sentation of the good news will take

    on an optimistic tone.

    ~f

    timd per-

mits, we could read paragraph 14 on

page 14 as we offer the Live Forever

book this month. I t will qdd to our

    positive approach. Similarly, when

we offer the magazines, we should

look for positive statements that will

help the person a t the door to see

that our message is truly good news.

    6Presenting the good news with

a positive approach will also result

in personal benefits. It will ihcrease

our joy in the field ministry. We

will view each person as a potential

    Bible student, someone who needs

the truth. We will'not be discour-

    aged when people are unresponsive

or when they speak m an unkindly
