Water Mapping The mission of Friends of Balboa Park is to preserve Balboa Park’s legacy for future generations through park-wide projects. Challenge Inadequate Maps of Water Infrastructure • Great deal of old water infrastructure in Park • Some mapped incorrectly or not at all • Incomplete knowledge of water meters, locations and areas served • Takes more time to shut off leaks, wasting water and labor • Damages the landscape with unnecessary digging Irrigation System Visibility • Improved irrigation technology can reduce water use • Improvements to the irrigation system are difficult without accurate maps or good system of measurement Lack of Measurement System • Manual water audits are required • Labor intensive to measure water use in the Park without adequate technology • Lack of current or historical data
