Injecto Tube Construction

A high strength spiral wire coil (1) prevents collapse during concrete placement, while the non-woven filter membrane (2) prevents the tube from being clogged with concrete particles. A bright yellow reinforced mesh sleeve (3) protects the tube and allows for easy inspection before the pour. Wherever old to new concrete surfaces join, the INJECTO Tube system can be easily installed.

Installation GuidelinesThe yellow INJECTO Tube is installed onto the hardened concrete during formwork installation. In case of rough surfaces, any gap between INJECTO Tube and the surface should be filled with SWELLSEAL®WA.

The yellow INJECTO Tube is cut to the required length on the job site. (recommended length 25 ft. or less). The cut ends are smoothed with a twist; then the blue trumpets are installed over the yellow INJECTO Tube and screwed down to the stop mark inside the trumpet.(Figure 3)

The yellow INJECTO Tube is attached to the concrete with the anchoring clips between the inner and outer reinforcing bars. Attach the anchoring clips to the concrete every 12 inches with concrete anchors or nails applied with a powder actuated system (see figures 5, 6 & 7)

The blue trumpets provide a connection between the yellow INJECTO Tube and the clear packer tubing. Trumpets on adjacent runs should be installed with the wide ends of the trumpets (where the yellow INJECTO Tube is attached) in line with each other and the two trumpets separated by 2-3 inches (see figure 8). This will help avoid cross contamination of the yellow INJECTO Tubes during the grouting operation.

Figure 3. Injecto Tube shown with blue trumpets

Figure 6. Nailing anchor clips

Page 9: Waterstop Solutions - Powerhouse Building Solutions · Colflex Plus EPDM Rubber for covering and sealing cracks and expansion joints Denepox Gel 125 Adhesive used to secure ... Vario

Always terminate the yellow INJECTO Tube into a trumpet and allow for a minimum of 2-1/2” of concrete cover. Do not run the yellow INJECTO Tube outside the formwork.

Attach the clear packer tubing over the serrated end of the trumpets. Then cut the appropriate length of packer tubing as required to reach a formholder packer or to extend outside the formwork. The clear packer tubing should be secured with tie wire to the rebar to prevent movement during the pour.

The formholder packers can be either nailed to wooden formwork or attached to the rebar with steel tie wire if metal forms are used. If formholder packers are used, attach the clear packer tubing directly to them If the clear packer tubing is being run outside the formwork, protect the open ends with a plastic cap or tape and take measures to protect them from damage during formwork installation and stripping.

The INJECTO Tube System is ideal for unique and problem details such as pipe penetrations and attaching to conventional PVC waterstops that may encounter very high head pressures (see figures 9 and 10).

CAUTIONS:1. The yellow INJECTO Tube must be installed in direct contact with the joint over its full length, to allow proper and complete distribution of the injection resin. If the concrete is not smooth enough to allow full contact, use SWELLSEAL® WA to create a smooth surface. Press INJECTO into the SWELLSEAL WA.

2. Do not cross the yellow INJECTO Tubes. Yellow should never touch yellow or cross contamination could occur during the grouting operation.

3. The ends and beginnings of yellow INJECTO Tube lengths should be done as in figures 4 and 8 to prevent cross contamination during the resin injection process.

Figure 8. End and beginning of Injecto Tube lengths.

Figure 7. Placement of anchor clips

Page 10: Waterstop Solutions - Powerhouse Building Solutions · Colflex Plus EPDM Rubber for covering and sealing cracks and expansion joints Denepox Gel 125 Adhesive used to secure ... Vario

4. Concrete coverage must be a minimum of 2 ½” on all sides. After concrete has cured for the recommended 28 days, any water infiltrating into the joint will be collected by the system and appear through the clear packer tubing. The tubing should either protrude out of the concrete at easily accessible places or be connected to a formholder packer.

The INJECTO Tube system is designed to provide a delivery system for waterproofing resins, which are injected into the structure in accordance with the instructions found in the selected injection resins technical data sheets. Consult with the DeNeef Technical Department for assistance in selecting the appropriate sealing resin for each condition.

Health and SafetyAlways use protective clothing, gloves and goggles consistent with OSHA regulations during use. Avoid eye and skin contact. Do not ingest. Refer to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed safety precautions.

In the event of an EMERGENCY call:

CHEMTREC 800-424-9300.

LimitationsINJECTO Tube waterstop system must be installed by an Approved DeNeef INJECTO Applicator in accordance with the INJECTO Manual for Warranty to be effective. Concrete cover must be a minimum of 2 ½” on all sides.

Injecto Tube Construction

A high strength spiral wire coil (1) prevents collapse during concrete placement, while the non-woven filter membrane (2) prevents the tube from being clogged with concrete particles. A bright green reinforced mesh sleeve (3) protects the tube and allows for easy inspection before the pour. Wherever challenging applications for injection hose , the SIS INJECTO Tube system can provide maximum flexibility for you injection needs.

Installation GuidelinesCold Joint Procedure:

The green SIS INJECTO Tube is installed onto the hardened concrete during formwork installation. In case of rough surfaces, any gap between SIS INJECTO Tube and the surface should be filled with SWELLSEAL®WA.

The green SIS INJECTO Tube is cut to the required length on the job site. (Recommended length 15 ft. or less). The cut ends are inserted into the black heat shrink sleeves. Apply sufficient heat with a hair dryer or hot air gun to allow sleeves to shrink unto tube. Use caution not to melt the sleeve. Torches or other open flames are not recommended. Pull gently on the clear plastic tubing to insure the sleeve is snug.

The green SIS INJECTO Tube is attached to the concrete with the anchoring clips between the inner and outer reinforcing bars. Attach the anchoring clips to the concrete every 12 inches with concrete anchors or nails applied with a powder actuated system.

When beginning the next 15 ft run of SIS INJECTO Tube, line up the ends of the two black sleeves so that the green SIS INJECTO Tubes are parallel to each other, but do not

touch. Provide a space between the two hoses of 2-3 inches. This will help avoid cross contamination of the two green SIS INJECTO Tubes during the grouting operation.

Always terminate the green SIS INJECTO Tube into heat shrink sleeve and allow for a minimum of 2-1/2” of concrete cover. Do not run the green SIS INJECTO Tube outside the form work.

Cut packer tubing to length as required to reach a formholder packer or to extend outside the formwork. The clear packer tubing should be secured with tie wire to the rebar to prevent movement during the pour.

The formholder packers can be either nailed to wooden formwork or attached to the rebar with steel tie wire if metal forms are used. If formholder packers are used, attach the clear packer tubing directly to them If the clear packer tubing is being run outside the form work, protect the open ends with a plastic cap or tape and take measures to protect them from damage during formwork installation and stripping.

CAUTIONS:1. The green SIS INJECTO Tube must be installed in direct contact with the joint over its full length, to allow proper and complete distribution of the injection resin. If the concrete is not smooth enough to allow full contact, use SWELLSEAL WA to create a smooth surface. Press SIS INJECTO into the SWELLSEAL WA.

2. Do not cross the green SIS INJECTO Tubes. Green should never touch green or cross contamination could occur during the grouting operation.

Figure 2. SIS Injecto Tube - three layers

Page 13: Waterstop Solutions - Powerhouse Building Solutions · Colflex Plus EPDM Rubber for covering and sealing cracks and expansion joints Denepox Gel 125 Adhesive used to secure ... Vario

Installation GuidelinesSaw Cut Procedure:

1. With a concrete cutting blade, create a slot in the cold joint to a depth of at least 2”. (Always use proper PPE; goggles, respirator, gloves, etc. when cutting concrete.)

2. Clean all concrete dust out of the slot with water or compressed air.

3. Install SIS INJECTO Tube into bottom of joint (maximum 15 ft. lengths). Make sure injection fittings are properly attached to the tube.

4. Extend the clear packer tubes to the surface of the wall or floor and allow enough excess tubing to protrude for easy access during pumping. DO NOT ALLOW GREEN SIS INJECTO TUBE TO EXTEND OUT OF THE SAW CUT!

5. Place an open cell backer rod or dry (unoiled) oakum into the saw cut to a depth equal to twice the width of the saw cut. Example: in a 3/8” saw cut, push the backer rod to a depth of 3/4”.

6. Fill the gap over the backer rod cover material such as Deneplug hydraulic cement, Denepox Gel 125, or Denepox Rapid Gel epoxy gels.

7. Allow sufficient time for the epoxy or hydraulic cement to fully cure.

8. Inject with desired injection resin per injection instructions.

Installation GuidelinesInjection Procedure:

1. Test the system for conductivity by attaching a water pump to the end of the first clear packer hose (inlet). Pump water until flow is detected at the next clear packer hose (exit).

2. If a hydro active resin is to be used, crimp off the exit hose and pressure the system to 200 psi. This will “wet out” the injection area and any adjacent cracks. If a two component acrylate is to be injected, this step is unnecessary.

3. Mix resin per instructions on the Data Sheet for the specific product used.

4. Conduct a cup test to insure proper reactivity of the resin.

5. Connect the resin pump to the clear packer hose (inlet) of the first tubing run.

6. Pump resin until it is observed at the exit hose.

7. Crimp off the exit hose and slowly raise pump pressure as required to get grout flow. Depending on the resin selected, injection pressures will vary; however, it is not recommended that pump pressures exceed 600 PSI.

8. Consult project specifications for injection termination criteria. This may be a specific pump pressure, a volume of grout pumped, or pump to refusal.

9. After reaching grout termination criteria, crimp off the injection tube and repeat the procedure at the next tube run.

10. Repeat with all tubes until all tube runs are injected.

11. After injection resin has cured, cut off clear packer tube ends flush with concrete surface and patch with Deneplug hydraulic cement, Denepox Gel 125, or Denepox Rapid Gel epoxy gels.

Grace Construction Products

Product DescriptionBentoject is the combination of a hydrophilic bentonite strip and a post-injectable injection tube into one system as a high performance waterstop for the sealing of construction joints in concrete.

1 2 3

Bentoject is composed out of 3 layers:

1. Reinforced spiral of steel wire on the inside prevents the collapse of the tube and hence blockage of the injection channel.

2. Filtering membrane between spiral wire and outer skin prevents the blocking of the injection channel and the swelling of the bentonite rubber towards the inside.

3. Bentonite rubber outer skin: This is the active part of the system and is made out of natural sodium bentonite and synthetic rubber. The outer skin will swell in contact with penetrating water and will thus seal the hair line cracks and small voids in the joint.

ApplicationsBentoject is designed for the secure sealing of construction joints, cold joints and working joints in concrete, where there is a deficiency in the concrete work. The product is ideally suited for concrete construction with a limited wall thickness. Bentoject can also be used to replace combinations of two and more passive construction joint sealing systems.

Bentoject

Page 16: Waterstop Solutions - Powerhouse Building Solutions · Colflex Plus EPDM Rubber for covering and sealing cracks and expansion joints Denepox Gel 125 Adhesive used to secure ... Vario

Bentoject should be stored under cover, clear of the ground. Protect the materials from all sources of moisture and frost. Shelf life is unlimited.

Installation GuidelinesBentoject should preferably be installed on a smooth and dust-free surface. The product can be used under most weather conditions. However, installation during heavy rain or in prolonged contact with water can result in a premature swelling of the strip, which should be avoided. Bentoject can only function properly in a confined space, such that sufficient expansion pressure develops to assure waterproofing, without the necessity for post-injection. Bentoject must be in direct contact with the construction joint over its entire length, hence the necessity of using the Bentoject wire mesh profile. This profile must be gun nailed to the surface, minimum every 10 inches (use nails with washers). If the surface is very irregular, level the opening between the Bentoject and the substrate with SWELLSEAL® WA or cementitious mortar. The Bentoject may be placed during the installation of the 2nd phase reinforcement bars, in between inner and outer rows of tie bars. Bentoject should be cut into lengths no longer than 5 m (16.4 ft). The ends should be prepared by cutting back the bentonite rubber skin by about 1.5 inches. The skin should be tapered at the end for easy installation of the trumpet. The blue trumpets slide over the injection tube until they are securely fixed in place.

Installation:

Step 1: Remove dust, dirt and loose parts by brushing firmly.

Step 2: Level uneven and irregular surfaces with Swellseal WA or cementitious mortar.

Step 3: Unroll the Bentoject (a concrete cover of 2.75 inches at all sides should always be respected). The roll ends should

have a lateral overlapping of 2 to 4 in. The green ends need to be pressed together as well as possible. The PVC ends must protrude out of the concrete at accessible spots to facilitate future injection. The green part of the Bentoject tube may not protrude out of the concrete.

Step 4: Place the wire mesh profile over Bentoject.

Step 5: Fix the system by hammering or gun nailing (use nails with washer, approx. 1 every 10 inches).

Injection:

When water is infiltrating through the joint, DeNeef injection grouts or micro-fine cements are injected through the PVC ends left protruding from the concrete in Step 3 above. Inject after 28 days cure time. The injection fluid may be DeNeef Flex SLV PURe, an acrylate or a microfine cement. The maximum injection pressure is 14 bar (203 psi). When the length of the tube is too long, the pressure of injection at the entry side is too high and can damage the concrete.Refer to DeNeef INJECTO® Applicators Manual for more details.

Health and SafetyAlways use protective clothing, gloves and goggles consistent with OSHA regulations during use. Avoid eye and skin contact. Do not ingest. Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for detailed safety precautions.

In the event of an EMERGENCY call:

CHEMTREC 800-424-9300.

LimitationsBentoject must be installed secure and flat in the joint such that the tube does not “float” up into the concrete pour.

3. Assemble the Bentoject system. Cut away 1-1/2inches of the benton-ite outer skin with a sharp knife. Be careful not to cut too deep or you will damage the internal membrane.

Page 18: Waterstop Solutions - Powerhouse Building Solutions · Colflex Plus EPDM Rubber for covering and sealing cracks and expansion joints Denepox Gel 125 Adhesive used to secure ... Vario

4. Clean up the surface of the internal membrane. Chamfer the edge with a twisting motion.

5. Install the blue trumpet onto the Bentoject with a screwing motion. The blue trumpet should sit tight onto the Bentoject injection tube. Make sure the bentonite outer skin is inside the conical part of the blue trumpet.

6. Unroll the Bentoject (a concrete cover of 2-3/4 inches at all sides should always be respected). The roll ends should have a lateral overlap-ping of 2 to 4inches; The green ends need to be pressed together as well as possible. In order to be able to inject at a later stage, the PVC ends have to protrude out of the concrete at well accessible spots. The green part of the Bentoject Tube may not pro-trude out of theconcrete. Make sure to have continuous contact with the surface.

Installation GuidelinesWarning: Consult the Technical Data Sheets and MSDS before using.

Installation Instructions: For detailed installation instructions refer to the DeNeef technical bulletin for your application.

Catalyst: Shake catalyst can 2-3 minutes. Pour the desired amount of Injecto PURe into a clean dry pail. Measure 1% Flex Cat PURe and pour it into the pail. Stir until adequately mixed. Exceeding the recommended amount of catalyst may adversely affect the reaction and quality of the cured foam. (1 catalyst can capful=0.5 oz; 1.3 oz/gal resin = 1%)

Injection: Injectable tubes should be adequately flushed with water prior to the injection of grout. During injection the grout will follow the path of least resistance. When the material has stopped penetrating it will continue to expand against the limits of the confined space and compress within itself, forming a dense, closed cell foam. See INJECTO Grout Tube Installation procedures for more detail.

Extreme conditions: For application procedures in extreme temperatures and specific environments or equipment recommendations call the DeNeef Technical Service Department.

Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment which have been in contact with the resin with DeNeef Washing Agent before resin has cured. Products should be disposed of according to local, state, and federal laws.

Health and SafetyAlways use protective clothing, gloves and goggles consistent with OSHA regulations. Avoid eye and skin contact. Do not ingest. Refer to MSDS. For emergencies, call CHEMTREC 1-800-424-9300.

LimitationsLow temperatures will significantly affect viscosity. Injecto PURe is not designed for void filling and must be used in compression. If site temperatures are extremely low, heat bands or heated water baths may be used on the pails before and during installation to maintain the product’s temperature. Avoid splashing water into open containers, as the material is water activated. Avoid exceeding 90oF when warming.

CAUTION: pH NOTICE. Water used to activate PURe Grouts must be in the pH range of 3-10 for optimum foam quality.

Packaging & Handling1 roll SWELLSEAL Joint = 32.8 ft (10 m)1 case SWELLSEAL Joint = 3 rolls (15 lbs)

Unlimited in a dry place in its original packaging.

Installation GuidelinesPrior to the installation of SWELLSEAL Joint, the surfaces should be level, dry, clean and free of oils, dust and laitance.

SWELLSEAL Joint can only function properly in a confined space in order to develop sufficient expansion pressure and assure waterproofing.

The expansion of SWELLSEAL Joint will create pressure, which needs to be counteracted by at least 3 ¾ ” of concrete cover on all sides (installation in the middle of the joint is preferred between the rows of rebar). SWELLSEAL Joint can be applied on both smooth and rough concrete.

On smooth concrete:

Roll the SWELLSEAL Joint between the inner and outer rebar and nail down with a gun (4 to 5 nails per yard) or use SWELLSEAL WA or DENEPOX GEL 125.

On rough concrete:

Gun SWELLSEAL WA or DENEPOX GEL 125 in a 3/8” bead between inner and outer rebar. Press SWELLSEAL Joint firmly into the mastic or epoxy. For vertical applications, apply extra nailing (4 to 5 nails per yard).

Install SWELLSEAL Joint with smooth surface upwards. Installation during rain or in prolonged contact with water can result in a premature swelling of the strip, which should be avoided.

If SWELLSEAL Joint is exposed to water prior to encapsulating in concrete, the strip

must be allowed to dry and shrink back to its original configuration. Roll ends are simply butted together to assure a waterproof seal. Do not install in overlap. The strip needs to be in contact with the joint over its full length.

Installation during rain or in prolonged contact with water can result in a premature swelling of the strip, which should be avoided. If the SWELLSEAL 8 has been exposed to water prior to encapsulating in the concrete, allow it to dry and shrink back to its

original configuration. Roll ends are simply butted together to assure a waterproof seal. Do not install in overlap. The strip needs to be in contact with the joint over its full length.

Grace Construction Products

Product DescriptionBentorub® is a green flexible hydrophilic strip of approximately ¾”x 1” (20mm by 25 mm), made of natural sodium bentonite clay and synthetic rubber. Bentorub is manufactured in lengths of 16.4 feet. The swelling properties are created by the particle structure of the clay. In contact with water and in confined conditions, Bentorub will swell to approximately 4V and create a waterproofing pressure inside the joint. The expanding clay mass will seal hair line cracks and voids in the joint. The first expansion is delayed to prevent the strip from reacting too soon with possible rainwater, before or during the installation.

Applications• Bentorub is designed for sealing cold joints, construction joints, and working joints in concrete; around pipe penetrations, in sewer joints, against slurry walls, sheet piling,

• Can be used in combination with INJECTO® Tube in high risk situations.

Installation Guidelines1. General.

• Bentorub can only function properly in a confined space in order to develop sufficient expansion pressure and assure waterproofing.

• The expansion of Bentorub will create a certain pressure, which needs to be counteracted by at least 2 ¾” of concrete coverage at both sides (installation in the middle of the joint is preferred).

• Bentorub is preferably applied onto a smooth and dust-free concrete surface. Bentorub can be used under most weather conditions.

• Installation during heavy rain or in prolonged contact with water can result in a premature swelling of the strip, which should be avoided.

• No special precautions should be taken during the preparatory activities (installation of the reinforcement bars, placement of shuttering, etc) in view of the subsequent installation of bentonite strip.

• Bentorub is applied during the installation of the 2nd phase reinforcement bars, in between inner and outer rows of reinforcing bars.

2. Substrate preparation.

• Remove dust, dirt and loose parts by brushing firmly.

• In case of very rough surface, it is recommended to level with SWELLSEAL® WA prior to installation of Bentorub. When using Swellseal WA , Bentorub needs to be fixed with nails.

• Alternatively, use MS Fixer to level and glue Bentorub in place. This method is only valid for horizontal applications.

• In case of vertical or overhead applications, Bentorub cannot be glued with MS Fixer, only use Bentosteel and nails.

3. Horizontal applications.

Application by nailing with or without Bentosteel.

• Unroll Bentorub in the middle of the joint and press down firmly

• Nail directly to the substrate using 1 nail with washer per ft.

Application by gluing with MS Fixer

• Apply a bead of MS Fixer of ¼”x½” with a caulking gun on the concrete surface.

• Unroll the Bentorub strip and press firmly into the glue. Wait until the glue is dry before pouring concrete (a concrete cover of 2 ¾” on all sides should always be maintained). The roll ends should have a lateral overlapping of 2 to 4 inches. The ends need to be pressed firmly together.

• Additional nailing or gun nailing will provide secure fixing onto the concrete.

4. Vertical and overhead applications by nailing with Bentosteel.

• Unroll the Bentorub strip (a concrete cover of 2 ¾” at all sides should always be respected). The roll ends should have a lateral overlapping of 2 to 4 inches. The ends need to be pressed firmly together.

• Install the Bentosteel wire mesh profile over the Bentorub.

• Fix the system by nailing or gun nailing (use nails with washer, approximately 1 per foot).

THE NEED TO SEAL SHEET PILESThe ProblemAs the use of sheet piling in wet environments increases,

so does the need to create a safe, dry work area after

excavation. The high cost of dewatering and treatment, as

well as increased concerns for worker safety and potential

damage to the surrounding eco-system pose a challenge

to both the designer and contractor.

The SolutionSWELLSEAL® WA, hydrophilic polyurethane, offers a

safe clean method of sealing sheet piling without the use

of hazardous chemicals. Formulated to swell upon

contact with water, hydrophilic polyurethanes can

expand to any shape to form a seal against water leaking

through the interlocks and penetrations in sheet piles.

SWELLSEAL® WASWELLSEAL® WA is a single component

hydrophilic polyurethane that can be applied in

wet or dry environments. Upon contact with

ground water, it can swell 2 or more times its

original volume. When applied to the interlocks of

sheet piling, it can swell to seal a leaking interlock

in the sheet

SWELLSEAL® WA Advantages:

• Easy to install gunnable paste

• No cure time required prior to driving sheets

• Can be applied to wet or dry surface

• Can be applied at cold temperatures

• Can wet and dry cycle repeatedly

• Can be applied to rough surfaces

Overview

Preferred Wet Drive Method

Cure and Drive Method

SWELLSEAL® WA SHEETPILE INSTALLATION

SWELLSEAL® WA may be used for stop-ping the ingress of water through sheet piling knuckles in two ways. Swellseal WA can be applied to the female opening of the piles, and allowed to fully cure before driving. This method is useful if the piles are to be pretreated in the contractor yard or plant prior to shipping them to the jobsite. Swell-seal WA can also be applied in the field and the sheets drive before the material is cured. This “wet driving” method allows the con-tractor to drive the sheet immediately after installation of the Swellseal WA.

There are two methods that can be used to apply Swellseal WA to sheet piles; the wet drive method and the cure and drive method. The wet drive method is generally preferred since it assures full fill of the sheet pile joint knuckle regardless of sheet movement during driving. Using the wet method, sheets can be driven, and re-driven for up to 24 hours without concern for the sealant. After about 24 hours, the sealant fully cures and devel-ops a strong adhesive bond with both sheets. Attempting to re-drive the sheets after the sealant has fully cured can result in cohesive

If there is a need to drive after 24 hours, you might be well served to use the cure and drive method. Using the cure and drive method allows the sealant to adhere to only one sheet, with the cured face of the seal-ant sliding against the other sheet during the driving process. This allows for driving and re-driving of a sheet, regardless of how long the sheet has been exposed to below ground moisture.

1. Lay sheets out with the female side of the pile accessible.

2. Clean all foreign material and the surface layer of oxidation from the knuckle by OSHA approved chemical, flame, or abrasion.

3. Immediately before applying sealant, blow the knuckle clean with compressed air. Com-pressed air must be free of oil and water.

4. Apply an 3/8” bead of Swellseal WA into the female knuckle. Do not overfill knuckle.

5. Drive the sheet pile.

1. Lay sheets out with the female side of the pile accessible.

2. Clean all foreign material and the surface layer of oxidation from the knuckle by OSHA approved chemical, flame, or abrasion.

3. Immediately before applying sealant, solvent wipe the knuckle.

4. After the solvent flashes off, apply an 3/8” bead of Swellseal WA into the female knuck-le. Do not overfill knuckle.

5. Tool the Swellseal WA in the knuckle to roughly the shape of the male interlocking member of the sheet pile.

6. Store sheet piles in such a way that they will not get standing water in the knuckle.

12 per case 25 lbs.

Store in dry area for up to 12 months from date of production at temperatures between 40°F and 85°F for best performance. See shelf life details on the material packaging.

Installation GuidelinesSWELLSEAL WA should be applied onto a dust-free concrete surface. The surface can be rough or smooth, moist or dry.

Application Method

10.5 oz. Cartridges: Use a heavy duty single cartridge gun. Screw on the nozzle and cut diagonally at the appropriate position

20oz. Sausages: Put the sausage in the empty tube of the bulk caulking gun and cut 1/8 inch off the top of the sausage. Close the tube and install the nozzle. Nozzles are supplied with the appropriate opening.

SWELLSEAL WA must be applied in an uninterrupted band (minimum 3/8” bead), gunned in the middle of the joint or precast element. Concrete cover must be at least 3 inches on all sides, in order to avoid cracks from the pressure of material swelling.

If SWELLSEAL WA is to be installed under water or during heavy rain, the concrete operation should begin within 2 hours of application to provide confinement for the material or premature swelling may result lowering the effectiveness of the material.

LimitationsSWELLSEAL WA must be fully confined on all sides to perform properly. When used in precast or joints, minimum concrete cover is 3” on all sides.

If unconfined, material may expand much greater than 200% and develop an open celled structure, which may result in leaks.

SWELLSEAL WA is not suitable for surface caulking applications.

When applied at temperatures below 40ºF, the material will have a significant cure time, possibly exceeding several days.

Pump Start UpFor most pumps, there are two separate lines.

Main pickup line (large line)

Prime line (small line)

The main pickup line sucks the material into the pump. The prime line is the smaller tube running alongside the main line. The objective is to NOT contaminate the DeNeef Washing Agent with either water or urethane grout.

You will need two buckets:

One empty bucket that will be the trash bucket.

One bucket filled with 3/4 gallon DeNeef Washing Agent.

1. Separate the main pickup line from the prime line.

2. Place the main pickup line into the Washing Agent.

3. Place the prime line into the trash bucket.

4. Start the pump.

5. Turn the prime switch to prime.

6. Let the prime line run into the trash bucket for 5 - 10 seconds. While the Washing Agent is still running, move the prime line over into the Washing Agent bucket. Let it run for about 1 minute. A steady flow of Washing Agent should be running out of the prime line.

7. Turn prime switch off. Pump should now be ready with DeNeef Washing Agent in the injection hose.

8. Point the grease gun into the trash bucket.Pull the trigger and let it run for 5 - 10 seconds.Release the trigger and point the gun into the Washing Agent bucket. Pull the trigger and let it run for 1 minute.

Grouting9. Pour Urethane grout from original container into an open top bucket. Add the catalyst and stir it into the grout slowly for 2 - 3 minutes.

10. Place the main pickup line into the urethane grout.

11. Place the prime line into the trash bucket.

12. Turn on the prime switch to prime. Let it run until the Washing Agent runs out and urethane grout starts running through the prime line. Turn prime switch off.

13. Place the prime line into the urethane grout.

14. Point the gun into the trash bucket and pull the trigger. Let it run until clear Washing Agent turns amber. You are now ready to grout.

Pump Shut Down15. Repeat this process using the Washing Agent.

16. Clean the prime line for 3 - 4 minutes.

17. Switch to the main pickup line.

18. Run the remaining urethane grout into the trash bucket.

19. When it runs with Washing Agent, recirculate Washing Agent for 3 - 4 minutes

Product DescriptionDeNeef’s Dry Oakum is a 2” diameter natural jute rope comprised of 8 strands, having a twist of approximately 1-1/4 turns per foot. The loose twist is easily unraveled to allow for fitting into joints or annular spaces from 1/2” to 2”. Single strands can be broken down to fit into openings smaller than 1/2”. When combined with DeNeef PURe polyurethane grouts and water, the system swells to seal cracks, joints, and annular spaces around pipe penetrations. The system is ideal for pre-injection sealing of openings or to stop flowing water prior to final injection of chemical grout.

Installation GuidelinesWarning: Use proper tools and safe cutting techniques to prevent injury while cutting Dry Oakum. Work on a flat well lighted surface and make all cutting motions away from the body. Always wear gloves, goggles and protective clothing when installing chemical grout soaked Dry Oakum. Refer to the manufacturers safety instructions for the resin being used before proceeding.

Installation Instructions:

1. Clean area to be sealed prior to installing saturated oakum to facilitate a good bond to the substrate.

2. Cut Dry Oakum into workable lengths. (18”-24”) Properly saturated and installed oakum will create a seal to itself, so several short sections may be used.

3. Loosen fibers with the hands to enhance material absorption.

4. In a clean pail pour DeNeef PURe polyurethane grout and add catalyst if required.. (Refer to the DeNeef technical department for the correct choice of chemical grout for your application.)

5. In a second pail, pour clean water to be used to initiate the chemical grout reaction.

6. Prior to saturating the Dry Oakum with chemical grout, wet the substrate with water and have a method available to apply water to the surface of saturated oakum after it is installed.

7. Using a gloved hand, submerge the Dry Oakum into the pail of chemical grout.

8. Work the resin into the Dry Oakum; similar to getting a sponge to soak up liquid.

9. Remove the saturated oakum from the grout pail. With a gloved hand, form a circle with the thumb and fore finger and pull the saturated oakum through the circle. Loosely grip the saturated oakum as it passes through the hand to remove excess surface resin without removing the resin that has saturated into the strand of oakum. DO NOT WRING OUT!

10. Dip the saturated oakum strip into the pail of clean water to initiate the chemical grouts reaction.

11. Immediately place the saturated / wetted strand of Dry Oakum into the crack, joint or annular space. A tool such as a screwdriver, punch, or metal rod may be used to facilitate saturated oakum placement.

12. Mist or spray additional water onto the surface of the saturated oakum. Use caution only to wet the surface and not to wash the resin out of the oakum.

13. Allow the chemical grout to fully react.

14. Repeat with additional strips as required to fill the entire area to be sealed.

15. Excess grout that expands out of the sealed area may be removed by mechanical means after the grout is fully cured. Use caution not to dislodge the newly formed seal.
