Awesome: you don’t know the meaning of the word
until you meet Jesus.
Believing Christ died is history.
Believing He died for you is salvation.
Blessed are the flexible,
for they shall not get all bent out of shape.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and
he will make straight your paths”
(Proverbs 3:5-6).
Happiness is a hard thing because it is only
achieved by making other happy.

Person To Person
“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I
will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob
is our fortress” (Psalm 46:10-11, ESV).
O ne of my favorite movies is the 1956 version of “The Ten Command-
ments” filmed, directed and narrated by Cecil B. DeMille. One of my
favorite scenes in the movie is the Red Sea crossing, especially the moment
when Moses (Charlton Heston) raises his staff and speaks those famous
words and the waters begin to part. In the movie version he tells the Israel-
ites, “The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us,” and then turns to the Red
Sea, spreads out his arms and declares, “Behold His mighty hand.”
However, Hollywood is never quite the same as the original. In Exo-
dus 14:13-14, Moses tells us what he said to the Israelites that day, “Do not
fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish
for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never
see them again forever. The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent.”
First, he tells them not to be afraid. Of what were the Israelites afraid?
They were afraid of Pharaoh and his army who were in hot pursuit. Then
Moses told the people to “stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which
He will accomplish for you today” (v. 13). The command, “stand by” is bet-
ter rendered “stand firm” or “stand your ground.” In other words, “don’t
turn and run” but “stand your ground” and see what the Lord is about to
do. What the Lord was about to do was destroy the Egyptian army which
was pursuing them. Finally, Moses encouraged the Israelites, “The Lord
will fight for you while you keep silent” (v. 14). There was no way for the
Israelites to fight and defeat the Egyptian army on their own. The Egyp-
tians were highly trained soldiers with the best weapons. The Israelites
were former slaves with no training in warfare. Only the Lord could defeat
this army which was pursuing them.
Oh, Moses still had something which he was to do and the Israelites
had something they were to do. Notice the next two verses, “Then the
Lord said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel
to go forward. As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over
the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of
the sea on dry land” (Exodus 14:15-16). Of course you know the rest of the
story.
Our story, in the midst of this virus, is still being written. Let us contin-
ue to pray to the Lord while trusting in Him to bring an end to it, and let
us do all that is within our power to flatten the curve and keep ourselves
and others safe as we move forward! — Jeff Keele

Let Us Thatch Our House Now
G. F. Raines lay, calmly awaiting his departure. His lov-
ing daughter brought his precious Bible to his bedside
and said, "Father, shall I read a chapter to you?" The dy-
ing man, being in much pain, said, "Na, na, lassie, the
storm's up noo. I theeked (thatched) ma hoose in the
calm weather." Those who thatch their spiritual house in
calm weather are the wisest of all people on the earth.
Amos, a great Hebrew prophet, says: "...prepare to meet
thy God" (Amos 4:12). We must prepare to meet God
because "he hath appointed a day, in the which he will
judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he
hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all
men, in that he hath raised him from the dead" (Acts
17:31). To truly prepare to meet our God, we must come
to Him through our Lord Jesus Christ by obedience to
the Gospel (John 14:6; Romans 1: 16,17; Mark 16:16;
Acts 2:36-41), and then "live soberly, righteously, and
godly in this present world" (see Titus 2:11,12; 2 Peter
1:5-11). If you are not in the right relationship with God,
you are in exceedingly critical need of making the neces-
sary preparation to meet God today. The Book of God
says: "Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest
not what a day may, bring forth " (Proverbs 27:1).
G.F. Raines, retired preacher of the gospel, lives in Ce-
lina, Tennessee, USA.

“Because of all my adversaries I have become a re-
proach, especially to my neighbors, and an object of
dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the
street flee from me. I have been forgotten like one who
is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. For I hear
the whispering of many—terror on every side!—as they
scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life.
But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, ‘You are my God.’
My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of
my enemies and from my persecutors! Make your face
shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love!
O LORD, let me not be put to shame, for I call upon
you; let the wicked be put to shame; let them go silently
to Sheol. Let the lying lips be mute, which speak inso-
lently against the righteous in pride and contempt. Oh,
how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored
up for those who fear you and worked for those who
take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of man-
kind” (Psalm 31:11-19)!
March 28th the Devo
will be pre-recorded and posted on the youth group’s
Facebook page on Saturday morning.
