And I would also like to thank the ladies that helped out with the Americana Day at Riverside Ele-mentary for Teachers Apprecia-tion Week. You ladies have no idea what that meant to all the staff at Riverside. I would also like to thank Commander Craig Sarrasin and Richard Byrd for cooking the chicken for America-na Day. It was amazing!!!!! You guys ROCK!!!!!!! Final nominations and elections of officers are this month at our monthly meeting. Our meeting will be on Tuesday May 2nd at 6:30pm in the shed. I hope to see you there. I would like to thank everyone for all your help and support during my last 2 years as your Auxiliary President. This is when we vote for our De-partment Officers. With our cur-rent membership we are author-ized 25 voting delegates on the floor. If you’re interested in at-tending please contact me. As of right now we have about 12 AMVETS attending. It’s a great opportunity to see your Florida AMVETS Department in action. The Post will pay for convention registration and dependent upon funds availability will also pay for 2 nights lodging for AMVET delegates. It’s a lot of fun and a chance to get out of town for the weekend and meet fellow AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Son’s and Rider’s from all the Post’s around the state. Have a good month and I’ll see you all at the Post.
Yours in Service Craig Sarrasin Commander

AMVEST Post 35 had a lot of events during the month of April. The Riders had their Annual USO Porker Run on the 1st of the month, the Ladies Kids Easter Party, Horse Races, Chaplains Fish Fry, and the Annual Schol-arship Golf Tournament on the 29th of April. All of these events were a success and I would like to thank everyone who helped and participated. April was also a fun filled month at the White household. As many of you know I opted to have my left foot amputated, ver-sus complete reconstructive sur-gery, which had a 50 percent chance of working. Surgery went well and I feel great. It’s now just a waiting game, time to heal and starting the process for prosthesis. Teresa and I would like to thank the amazing AMVETS Family at Post 35 from the bottom of our hearts for all the support through this trying time. It’s times like this you re-alize what being a part of AMVETS is all about! One of our TV’s behind the Bar died and went to TV heaven. Funding has been approved and a new one should be in place soon. Up keep of the Post is a never-ending thing. It’s summer time, grass needs to be cut regularly among other things. I ask, if you see something you can do, please feel free to do so. It takes a team to accomplish all we do here as a Post and up keep is just one. In the near future, myself and the Trustees will be scheduling a work party. The more participa-tion the better. I have enjoyed working with the Board of Trustees as the

Chairman of the Board over the last year. I am proud of all the improvements we have made. Some of these improvements in-clude the new smoke eradication system, non-porous ceiling tiles, a beautiful lawn, the ultimate gaming machine, and a video jukebox. These are just a few and the Trustees are always brainstorming for further im-provements. With that being said, it is election time again. I have been nominated for Chair-man of the Board again this year and would appreciate your vote if you would like me to continue to serve as your Chairman of the Board. Thank you.

There are plenty of great activi-ties during May, so don’t miss out! In addition to all those cook-outs and trips to the beach, be sure to attend the Military Appre-ciation Recognition Celebration at the Spanish Trail Park in Crestview on Saturday, May 20. You can enjoy food and entertain-ment for the whole family from 11AM until 3PM, and it’s all free! There is a car show, music, bounce houses for the kids and lots of military displays, along with BBQ, burgers and hot dogs/brats.
Also in May will be the Memorial Day Ceremony on May 29. I don’t have anything official at this writing but this event is tradi-tionally sponsored by the DAV Auxiliary at the cemetery, and usually starts at 10AM. There will be more information con-cerning exact times and guest speaker available at the Post as we receive it.
Mother’s Day this year will be particularly busy, as that after-noon will also be the General Membership meeting with elec-tions. You don’t want to miss having a voice in your Post lead-ership for the next year, so mark it on your calendar. The date is Sunday, May 14 and the change was required to comply with De-partment rules. The meeting will start at 6PM in order to give you plenty of chance to celebrate with Mom, make the meeting and still get ready for work/school the next day.
As we continue to go through this
busy summer, don’t forget to turn
in those program reports. Many
of you have visited our members
in the hospital recently, and
mileage and hours can all be reported. You’re also assisting with the patriotic events of the season, as well as participating in Relay for Life, poker runs and other projects to raise funds for others. All of these are pro-grams and should be reported. It’s not anything you do extra, it’s just what you do already that can help to keep the Post as a non-profit organization. Turn in those reports, I’ll take care of the rest!
Yours in Service,
Liz Westby 2nd Vice Commander
Canteen Manager I would like to give a big "Thank You" to Mary Hafner for cleaning out/planting the front flower beds. Any help around this post is great-ly appreciated. The juke box has been very suc-cessful. Some cons though....Please be more aware of the types of music/songs you play. If they do have explicit lyr-ics, the bartender will mute your song and you will not be refund-ed. Also, as a reminder, if you are needing to go behind the bar, please make sure that the bartend-er on duty hears you when you ask...especially on busy nights due to music and talking. And as al-ways, I am open to suggestions for new liquor or beers. Just let me know. Thanks ya'll. Sherrie
Do you know who I am? I will buy a beer for the first per-son who comes up to me and lets me know that they seen my pic-ture in the Newsletter. Can you figure out who I am?
NOTICE: In order to comply with Department of Florida
By-Laws, the May General Membership Meeting and final round of nominations
and elections of Post Officers and Trustees will be on Sunday May 14th at
6PM. The E-Board Meeting will be at 4:30PM
prior to the General Membership.
Trivia Question
First 5 people to tell the bartender on duty the correct
answer will receive a free beer.
Which city and state is the official
birthplace of Memorial Day?
