*Set departure. Please note that there is an early start of approx. 7.30am on your last day of walking. Your transfer in our vehicle, back to Apollo Bay, leaves at 4pm from the 12 Apostles. This is approximately an hour and a half drive back to Apollo Bay. This timing is generous and allows time to view the 12 Apostles. If you do not wish to walk as far as the itinerary suggests on your last day, you can stop walking at Princetown and we can drive you in to see the 12 Apostles at the visitor centre. Please note that you cannot catch the v-line bus out of Apollo Bay on Day 5, as we cannot get you back into Apollo Bay in time. Please arrange to stay an additional night in Apollo Bay this evening if you do not have a car. Alternatively speak to us about a private transfer to Colac (to catch the train to Melbourne), Geelong, Avalon airport or Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. Option to extend your stay in Port Campbell:

Please note that the Great Ocean Walk ends at the 12 Apostles. You cannot walk from the 12 Apostles to Port Campbell as there is no track. This option is for those who have more time to explore the area.

Page 3: (WB5) Five day hike: Complete walk to the 12 Apostles, Catered or … · 2017-10-05 · (WB5) Five day hike: Complete walk to the 12 Apostles, Catered or Self Catered Recommended

Options on Day 6: If you have left your car in Apollo Bay we return you to your car by picking you up at approx. 11am from Port Campbell, stopping at Loch Ard Gorge for a short visit/ photo op. If you have used public transport to get to Apollo Bay on the v-line service you can choose to;

A) Return to Apollo Bay at approx. 11am- (via Loch Ard Gorge) in time to catch the v-line bus to Melbourne/ Geelong –usually departs early afternoon. Bus/train link: https://www.vline.com.au/ Click on plan trip/buy tickets.

B) We will arrange a taxi/transport to take you to Camperdown Station to catch a train to Geelong /Melbourne/Warrnambool. Please advise the time you would like the taxi booked – allow 1hr to travel by taxi to Camperdown to catch your train. Check out of accommodation is 10am but you may want to leave your bags at your accommodation, while you explore the area, and let us know what time you would like your taxi booked to the station. The cost of the taxi is included in this price. Bus/train link: https://www.vline.com.au/ Click on plan trip/buy tickets. The cost of the taxi is included in this price.

Please note that v-line bus fares are NOT included in this price/itinerary. Walkers need to arrange & pay the bus/train tickets themselves using the link provided and let us know what bus/train you would like to catch.

If some walkers are fitter than others: Please note that this 5 day walk includes the whole walk and requires a higher level of fitness.

We recommend that everyone ‘trains’ to prepare for their Great Ocean Walk. It is not an extremely difficult walk but sometimes old injuries can resurface after a long day’s walk and walking consecutive days. (Blisters can also be a problem if you do not wear suitable boots & wear them in before arrival). If this happens – do not distress! We are always happy to help you out by offering alternative walking options/distances based on what we are able to logistically offer you on the day. This depends on where there is vehicle access on the walk & when (time wise) our driver can arrange pick you up if you are struggling to complete distances. If you cannot walk at all on a certain day, that is fine too. We can arrange for you to rest in the accommodation and transfer you (when we move the luggage) to your next accommodation. However – the best thing to do is be prepared as much as you physically can so you can really enjoy everything this wonderful walk has to offer. Please note that Day 4 is the hardest due to the more undulating track. However you are not scrambling up rocks, there are well established tracks. You may borrow poles from us free of charge. Poles (if requested) and an ‘epirb’ (emergency beacon) will be lent to you at your private walk briefing on your arrival in Apollo Bay.

Please read Walk 91s booking conditions and ‘General Information’ pages. The Price includes: Night 1 & 2: Cabins on the borders of the Otway National Park

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS WALK: The scenic start of the Great Ocean Walk sets the standard for the rest of your journey. The walk follows the magnificent coastline, with sweeping views of the Great Otway National Park and the Cape Otway region. Decide whether to walk along beaches or on cut tracks, past farmlands and coastal forests. Upon arriving at Shelly Beach the track starts meandering into the rainforest of the Otway National Park. Hikers walk past tree ferns and tall eucalypts found in the wet gullies. The tall rainforests are home to Black Wallabies who dominate this walk along old forest tracks. As you approach the coast again with wonderful views over Parker Inlet, the vegetation changes to dry coastal forests, inhabited by Echidnas and King Parrots. Experience spectacular views of Bass Strait along the cliff tops, which lead you to Victoria’s oldest Light Station. Remember to look out for the Manna Gums, as they are home to the local Koalas. After visiting Cape Otway Light Station, you will pass the old Light Station Cemetery, in the direction of the Aire Heritage River. The tombstones reflect the hardships earlier settlers experienced, when first inhabiting this challenging southern coastline. Leaving the cemetery the track heads towards Station Beach, taking you past coastal wattle and bearded heath. Admire wind-sculpted slopes and cliff tops with sensational views and visit a spring fed waterfall, cascading onto rocky platforms below. This section of the walk also features a river estuary, rocky escarpments and stunning coastal views .You will pass heath land, wildflowers and grass trees. Be prepared for some beach walking as you drop down onto beautiful Johanna Beach. Look out for majestic Wedge-tailed eagles and White bellied Sea eagles. Passing the beach, you climb upwards alongside a picturesque farmland valley, and follow a winding country road. The road then descends into the dramatically rugged Milanesia Beach. As the track rises back to the cliff tops you are presented with outstanding views from the coastal forests, high on the sea cliffs. Finally walk amongst the Sheoak trees, dropping down onto historical Wreck Beach. Admire the old anchors rising out of the sand, as testament to why this region is referred to as the Shipwreck Coast. Once past the beautiful Gellibrand estuary the track climbs up for the last 5 kilometres of the Great Ocean walk, finishing with impressive and unforgettable views of the 12 Apostles.
