ABOUT THE GEODUCKSEvergreen State heads to town, as the Geoducks (1-4) look to improve on a 10-

19 season last year. Tenth-year head coach Monica Heuer’s squad is led by PreseasonAll-CCC performer Latrina Woods (10.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg), returning forward Danielle Swain(13.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg), and newcomer Shavon Tate (12.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Eastern Oregonswept both matchups last season, and has only lost two of the 25 all-time meetings withthe Geoducks.

LAST TIME OUTThe Mountaineers swept their trip to the Sunshine State with a pair of victories

at the Warrior Turkey Shootout hosted by Webber International University in BabsonPark, Fla. EOU made a school-record 17 three-pointers to beat Warner University, 85-50, last Friday. Eastern’s Shaylee Nielsen came off of the bench to make 5 of her 8shots from behind the perimeter for 15 points. Vintea Georges led all scorers with 19points. The Mountaineers finished the tournament with an 80-42 rout over the host,Webber International. Eastern Oregon made 10 of its 18 shots from behind the perime-ter. EOU shot 45 percent from the field, and held WIU to 22 percent. Samantha Flettscored a game-high 16 points to lead Eastern.

ABOUT THE EAGLESNorthwest is coming off a third-place finish in the CCC standings last year. The

Eagles (5-3) have played a quality preseason schedule, notching wins against MontanaState-Northern, Puget Sound, Whitworth, and Whitman – while two of their three losseshave come against Carroll. NU plays an uptempo style, averaging 74 points per game –led by a trio of players in double-figures – guards Emily Drivstuen (14.5 ppg, 1.4 rpg)and Kia Gibson (11.4 ppg, 3.6 rpg), and post Jessalyn Jackson (11.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 29blocks).

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball teamknocked off The Evergreen State College, 60-44, to end the 2009-10 regular sea-son Saturday.

The Mountaineers (18-10, 12-6) were led by Tana Stickney's 18 points. The seniorfinished 7 for 12 from the field. Shaylee Nielsen added 14 points for EOU. Thejunior was 4 for 5 from behind the perimeter. Nielsen recorded her first double-double with the Mountaineers grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Geoducks, who are now 0-13 all-time in Quinn Coliseum, were led by fourplayers that each scored six points. Eastern held TESC to just 28 percent shoot-ing from the field. Evergreen was 1-16 (6.3 percent) from behind the arc.

Eastern Oregon finished 38 percent from the field, and 28 percent for three-point-ers. Salena Leavitt finished with a game-high five assists. EOU has now won 23 ofthe 25 all-time meetings with Evergreen State.

LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Northwest University women's basketball team knockedoff Eastern Oregon on the road Friday, 67-60.

The Eagles (16-9) (12-5) were powered by a strong start, jumping out to a 15-4lead, five minutes into the game. NU's Erika Hornyak led all scorers with 21points. The junior was 6 for 11 from the field.

Jessica Wilkerson added 17 points for the Eagles, going 6 for 17 from the field.Wilkerson and Alexa Breidenbach each threw four assists. Jessalyn Jacksonadded six blocks for Northwest.

The Eagles strong start was attributed to its 50 percent shooting from the field inthe first half, compared to Eastern's 28 percent. NU forced 20 Mountaineerturnovers in the game.

Northwest's largest lead in the first half was 15 points, 26-11, with 8:13 remaininguntil halftime. The Eagles led 39-25 at the half. EOU cut the lead to 43-33, threeand a half minutes into the second half. NU responded with 12-0 run to make themargin 22 points, the largest of the evening. Eastern cut the lead to single digits inthe final two minutes, but could not overcome the deficit.

The Mountaineers (17-10) (11-6) had four double-digit scorers led by ShayleeNielsen's 17 points. Samantha Flett added 15 points, Tana Stickney had 11 points,and Kyle Miller chipped in 10 points. Eastern finished 10 for 30 from behing theperimeter.

The Eagles could clinch second place in the conference tournament with a victorySaturday in Caldwell, Idaho against The College of Idaho. Friday's win sealed asweep for NU over the Mountaineers in the regular season. The win marks theeighth time Northwest has beaten EOU in the 32 all-time meetings.

NEW START TIMES FOR 2010-11A new doubleheader format featuring

men’s and women’s teams alternating timeslots in conference play headlines the releaseof the 2010-11 Cascade CollegiateConference men’s and women’s basketballschedules, CCC commissioner Dave Haglundannounced.

The first half concludes Jan. 15; thesecond half runs from Jan. 21 to Feb. 19.The CCC recently voted to modify the struc-ture of its conference doubleheaders, whichhistorically have featured the women playingat 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.Beginning with the upcoming campaign, gen-ders will split the two time slots. In the firsthalf of conference play in 2010-11, men willplay at 5:30 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.; inthe second half, the genders will flip timeslots. Men’s and women’s teams will flip theirplaying orders on a yearly basis.

LONG DISTANCE SPECIALISTSThe Mountaineers are top in the

nation in three-point percentage shooting 46percent from behind the perimeter. EOU isalso first in NAIA Div. 2 holding opponents to18 percent shooting from behind the arc. Intheir victories this season Eastern has won byan average of 39 points.

Eastern Oregon is averaging 10.5three-pointers per game, which is third inNAIA Div. 2.

Kelsea Hurliman and Nicole Redd aresecond and seventh in the country in three-point field goal percentage.
