ABOUT THE LADY OWLSOregon Tech enters the game with an 18-3 overall record and is tied with Eastern Oregon and Corban atop the Cascade Conference standings with a 7-2 CCC record. Th e Lady Owls came into the season picked seventh in the conference preseason poll. OIT is second in NAIA Div. 2 in total rebound margin, fourth in fi eld goal percentage defense and scoring defense, and fi ft h in defensive rebounds per game. Tech is one spot out of the Top 25 for the second straight week. Oregon Tech is two wins shy of its fi rst 20-win season in four years. Th e Owls are 9-0 at home this season, while EOU is 8-2 on the road, the best marks of their kind in the Cascade Conference. Aundrea Albright is ninth in the nation in fi eld goal per-centage at .559.

LAST TIME OUTTh e No. 11 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team rallied for a 56-52 win over Th e College of Idaho last Friday. Th e College of Idaho held Eastern to just 32 percent shoot-ing from the fi eld, led for 30 minutes of the game, but could not hold off the Mountaineers. EOU made a season-low 16 shots from the fi eld in the win. Eastern Oregon was 16-of-50 from the fi eld, 6-for-13 from behind the arc, and made 18 of its 25 free throws. Dominique Johnson led the Mountaineers with 14 points. Th e redshirt freshman was 3-of-7 from the fi eld and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Brooke Randall added 11 points. Kyle Miller led EOU with three assists and Chayla Jones grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. In a game that pitted the top two teams in the Cascade Collegiate Conference going into the night, C of I led for most of the game.

MOUNTAINEERS RETURN TO TOP 10Th e Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team climbed from No. 11 to No. 10 in the NAIA Div. 2 Top 25 poll Monday. Th e Mountaineers (15-4, 7-2) moved back into the top 10 following their 56-52 victory over Th e College of Idaho last Friday. EOU has won fi ve of its last six games. Eastern Oregon is one spot from matching its highest ranking in school history from earlier this season. Fellow Cascade Conference member, Corban, made the biggest move in the Top 25. Th e Warriors (13-5, 7-2) jumped from No. 21 to No. 15 aft er a sweep at home over Warner Pacifi c College and Concordia University. Oregon Tech (18-3, 7-2) remained one spot out of the Top 25 with 80 votes, three votes shy of the Top 25. Th e College of Idaho had nine votes in the poll, and Warner Pacifi c had eight.

EOU AND OIT MOVED TO SUNDAYTh e Cascade Collegiate Conference announced that the women’s and men’s games involving Eastern Oregon University and Oregon Tech have been rescheduled for Sunday in Klamath Falls. Due to severe road conditions in Pendleton, Ore., the Eastern Oregon and OIT games originally scheduled for this evening, have been moved to Sunday at 2 and 4 p.m. EOU is unable to depart Pendleton until at least 11 a.m. and hopefully road conditions will improve. Th e highway patrol is asking travel to be delayed if possible. EOU travel was delayed yes-terday in Pendleton, where both its women’s and men’s teams spent the night due to severe weather conditions including freezing rain. Interstate 84 has been periodically closed this morning in both directions due to accidents. Please continue to monitor CascadeConfer-ence.org for updates and information.

ABOUT THE RAIDERSSouthern Oregon has 12-8 overall record and a 3-6 conference record entering the weekend. Th e Raiders 46.7 rebounds per game is second in NAIA Div. 2. SOU is third in off ensive re-bounds per game with an 18 a contest. Haley Newell averages 11.75 points per game to lead Southern. Josi McDermott is adding 10 points a contest. Nalani Hernandez leads SOU in rebounding with 7.2 a game. RaTayna Newsome is throwing 3.6 assists per game. Th e Raid-ers have won six of their 10 games at home this season. Southern Oregon began the season by winning nine of its fi rst 10 games, but it has won only three of its last 10 games.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Th e No. 9 Eastern Oregon Uni-versity women’s basketball team fell at home to Oregon Tech, 52-50.

Th e Lady Owls (12-2, 3-1 Cascade Collegiate Confer-ence) won for the fi rst time in Quinn Coliseum since 2007, and ended a four-game losing streak to EOU on the road. It was only the second time in the past 11 meetings that Tech beat Eastern.

Aft er trailing by as many as 15 points in the fi rst half, OIT rallied and held off Eastern Oregon for the win. Th e Mountaineers shot 5-of-30 from the fi eld in the second half, while Oregon Tech was 62 percent from the fi eld.

Tech was led by Kassi Conditt’s double-double per-formance. Th e sophomore was 6-for-9 from the fi eld and fi nished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Aundrea Albright added 14 points. Th e Owls were held to 26 per-cent shooting from the fi eld in the fi rst half, but made 15 of their 24 second half shots in the second half.

Oregon Tech pulled out the stunning road victory despite making just three of its 16 three-point attempts and three of its 10 free-throw attempts. Th e Owls com-mitted 15 turnovers, while EOU had nine.

Th e Mountaineers (10-3, 3-1) led 31-16 at the 3:03 mark of the fi rst half aft er a pair of Brooke Randall free

throws. Th eir 15-point advantage came aft er an 18-4 run that seemed to Eastern in control of the game. A Vintea Georges basket with fi ve seconds remaining until halft ime gave EOU a 33-21 halft ime lead.

Oregon Tech took its fi rst lead of the game just over four minutes into the second half aft er a Jazzy McDaniel shot in the paint. Th e Owls would open the second half on a 17-2 run. Eastern would miss 15 of its fi rst 17 shots in the second half. Karissa Dixon gave Tech its largest lead of the game with 8:05 remaining in regulation, 46-40.

Dominique Johnson tied the score at 50 with 1:20 left in the game. Conditt gave OIT a 52-50 advantage 16 seconds later. Th e Mountaineers would miss a pair of three-pointers in the fi nal minute of play to give Tech the win.

Randall led Eastern Oregon with 11 points. Th e junior made three of her nine shots from the fi eld. She also had a game-high four assists and three steals. Chayla Jones fi nished with a team-high eight rebounds.

Th e Mountaineers fi nished with a season-low shooting percentage from the fi eld at 27 percent. EOU hit seven of its 34 three-point attempts and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Eastern was outrebounded, 44-35. Tech also had a 34-14 points in the paint advantage.

MOUNTAINEERS PICK UP WIN NO. 10Dec. 16, 2011

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Th e No. 9 Eastern Oregon Uni-versity women’s basketball team eased past Southern Oregon University Friday, 80-51.

Th e Mountaineers (10-2, 3-0 Cascade Collegiate Con-ference) outscored SOU, 47-27, in the second half and pulled away for the win. Eastern is now 9-3 against the Raiders in La Grande since 2000.

Dominique Johnson led EOU with 18 points, six assists, and four assists. Th e redshirt freshman was 7-of-13 from the fi eld. Vintea Georges and Brooke Randall each had eight rebounds.

Eastern Oregon got out to a 14-7 advantage to begin the game. Th e Raiders closed the lead to 17-14 aft er a Krysten Copeland jump-shot in the paint with 6:48 remaining in the fi rst half. EOU responded with a 10-3 run and began to stretch its margin. Th e Mountaineers led 33-24 at halft ime.

Eastern opened the second half on a 21-7 run to take a 54-31 lead with 12:18 left in regulation. A pair of Nicole Redd free throws with 2:45 remaining in the contest gave EOU its largest lead of the game, 76-46.

Th e Mountaineers’ bench outscored Southern’s bench, 45-25. Eastern Oregon also had a 30-14 points in the paint advantage. EOU outrebounded Southern, 56-28.

Eastern held the Raiders to 27 percent shooting from the fi eld, and 6-of-23 shooting from behind the arc. SOU was 13-for-23 from the free-throw line. Th e Moun-taineers were 48 percent from the fi eld, 30 percent from three-point range, and 73 percent from the free-throw line.

Copeland had a team-high 12 points to lead SOU (10-4, 1-2). She was 5-for-10 from the fi eld. Nalani Hernandez grabbed eight rebounds.

WEEK TEN: OREGON TECH AND SOUTHERN OREGON

BASKETBALL HAS WEEKLY SHOWTh e Eastern Oregon University basketball programs will have their own radio talk show on Monday’s 12-1 p.m. on KUBQ 98.7 FM. Every show will be podcasted on EOUSports.com by the following morning. Mountaineer fans can tune into 98.7 FM and listen to EOU basket-ball analysis, game recaps, game previews, and interviews with coaches and players. Th e whole hour is devoted to Eastern Oregon women’s and men’s basketball. Th e show provides recaps of the previous weekend’s games and previews the upcoming weekend games. Th e show has inter-views with coaches’ and analysis from the show’s hosts. EOU Assistant Athletic Director, Barrett Henderson and John Mallory, will co-host each broadcast each week.

EOU LANDS TRIO ON CCC LISTKorrie Bourn, Kyle Miller, and Brooke Randall were each tabbed preseason All-Conference per-formers by the CCC head coaches. EOU was one of two schools to land three players to the pre-season list. Miller, a senior, averaged 11.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season. Bourn and Randall were the only newcomers on the list aft er transferring to Eastern from Spokane Falls Community College. Corban University’s Katie Steigleman was voted the CCC’s Preseason Player of the Year.

EASTERN TABBED SECOND IN CCCTh e Eastern Oregon University women’s basket-ball team was selected second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason coaches’ poll. With fi rst-place votes from six coaches, Corban University is the preseason choice to win the conference title. Eastern Oregon and Warner Pacifi c split the remaining four fi rst-place votes, with the Mountaineers and Knights picking up two each. EOU and WPC each tallied 82 points to share second in the preseason ranking.

EOU OPENS SEASON IN TOP 25Th e Eastern Oregon University women’s basket-ball team begins the 2011-12 season at No. 23 in NAIA Div. 2. Th e Mountaineers were ranked 23rd in the country in the preseason poll Mon-day. EOU last appeared in the national preseason poll in the 2007-08 season, when it received 54 votes. Eastern climbed as high as No. 20 on Dec. 13 last season.
