When you enter this church it may be possible that you hear “the call of God”. However, it is unlikely that He will call you on your cell phone. Thank you for turning off your phones. If you want to talk to God, enter, choose a quiet place and talk to Him. If you want to see God, send Him a text while driving.

PASSING OF THE PEACE Lesson: 2 Kings 22: 1-10; (14-20); 23: 1-3

22 Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; he reigned thirty-one

years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah of

Bozkath. 2 He did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the

way of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left. 3 In the

eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, son of

Meshullam, the secretary, to the house of the LORD, saying, 4 “Go up to the high

priest Hilkiah, and have him count the entire sum of the money that has been

brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the threshold have

collected from the people; 5 let it be given into the hand of the workers who

have the oversight of the house of the LORD; let them give it to the workers who

are at the house of the LORD, repairing the house, 6 that is, to the carpenters, to

the builders, to the masons; and let them use it to buy timber and quarried stone

to repair the house. 7 But no accounting shall be asked from them for the money

that is delivered into their hand, for they deal honestly.” 8 The high priest Hilkiah

said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the book of the law in the house of

the LORD.” When Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, he read it. 9 Then Shaphan

the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have

emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into

the hand of the workers who have oversight of the house of

the LORD.” 10 Shaphan the secretary informed the king, “The priest Hilkiah has

given me a book.” Shaphan then read it aloud to the king.14 So the priest Hilkiah,

Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophetess Huldah the wife of

Shallum son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; she resided in

Jerusalem in the Second Quarter, where they consulted her.

15 She declared to them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Tell the man

who sent you to me, 16 Thus says the LORD, I will indeed bring disaster on this

place and on its inhabitants—all the words of the book that the king of Judah has

read. 17 Because they have abandoned me and have made offerings to other

gods, so that they have provoked me to anger with all the work of their hands,

therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be

quenched. 18 But as to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD,

thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the

words that you have heard, 19 because your heart was penitent, and you

humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard how I spoke against this

place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a

curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have

heard you, says the LORD. 20 Therefore, I will gather you to your ancestors, and

you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; your eyes shall not see all the

disaster that I will bring on this place.” They took the message back to the king.

23 Then the king directed that all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem should be

gathered to him. 2 The king went up to the house of the LORD, and with him

went all the people of Judah, all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the priests, the

prophets, and all the people, both small and great; he read in their hearing all

the words of the book of the covenant that had been found in the house of

the LORD. 3 The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, to

follow the LORD, keeping his commandments, his decrees, and his statutes, with

all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were

written in this book. All the people joined in the covenant.

GOSPEL: Luke 24: 30-32

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and

gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and

he vanished from their sight. 32 They said to each other, “Were not our hearts

burning within us[a] while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening

the scriptures to us?”

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P We pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

P Loving God, our world is not perfect and we are not always at peace. Still,

you come to us with your promise of renewal and forgiveness. Ground us in

your covenant and keep us faithful to your gospel mission. Steadfast God,

C Hear our prayer.

P The world is full of reminders that you are always with us: the sun which

rises daily, the endless oceans, and the tranquility of nature’s grace. May we

not forget that the one who created this vast universe also created us, to be

partners in renewal and preaching compassion and mercy. Steadfast God,

C Hear our prayer.

P Watch over all who travel this week and give them joyful homecomings.

Strengthen family bonds, and be with those without company during the

holidays, whether by choice or not. Remind us that whether we are alone or

with others, you are always present. Steadfast God,

C Hear our prayer.

P Nations and peoples suffer from conflict, war, disasters and unjust leadership.

Heal those who have been wounded or traumatized, and assist those who

minister to them. We ask special prayers today especially for those we

remember in our hearts Steadfast God,

C Hear our prayer.

P We remember faithful pioneers of the church Justus Falckner, Jehu Jones,

and William Passavant. Bless all those who made strides toward increasing

the reach of your gospel and establishing new ways and new places to learn

and worship. Steadfast God,

C Hear our prayer.

Here other petitions may be offered. Together we pray:

C Lord, help us your believers become disciples who: love unconditionally; listen compassionately; speak truthfully; act justly; endure patiently; forgive mercifully; give generously; serve selflessly; invite constantly; pray fervently; witness unashamedly; and live worthily.

P Your word is trustworthy and true, and in your promises we find hope. Hear

our prayers and make us part of the solutions we seek. In Jesus’ holy name,

Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

Communion is open to all baptized believers who know Jesus as Savior and seek to live with him as Lord of all areas of life. Small children and others not prepared to receive communion are invited to come forward for a blessing. Communion is served by intinction. You receive the wheat wafer in your hand and dip it in the chalice of wine or the glass with white grape juice. Simply complete a slip found in the pew box and place it in the offering. Consider the options on reverse side as to how you may serve this congregation.

How is God working in your life lately?? Please share stories of how you see God working in your day-to-day life

Pastor and our staff are always looking for stories, Please let us know how God is working so we can share stories of his amazing work!

Send stories to [email protected] Here is a story from Pastor Timm: "It was a normal Wednesday morning, one in which I had the privilege of making a home visit to a couple from Tennessee that had visited our worship service. During a cup of coffee and a great conversation, this couple mentioned that they had met some folks that worship at GdC at last year’s North Dakota breakfast, by the name of Peterson...Dennis Peterson...and they wondered if they were back yet. I said that I had not seen them, but I would call them and harass them when I got back to the office. Upon returning to the office, I got sidetracked to other pressing matters...until my cell phone rang...with a call from Sharon Peterson...Dennis' wife. I told Sharon the story, and gave her the other folks number, so she could call and share a 'God-incidence'....a story that is more than coincidence....caused by God!" So, how have you been seeing or experiencing God being active in your life and world? We all need you to share your faith story!!!

Please make a right turn out of the driveway onto 40th Street! Left turns will hold up traffic and cause people to lose any religious good that happened in the last hour!
