“Spring is when the flowers start to grow.” - Gigi

Tuesday was the first day of spring and we talked to the children about the changes they have noticed in the environment. We also showed the children a small, delicate nest that was found at Ms. Bawden's brothers farm. Gigi: Spring in when the flowers start to grow. Isobel: Mummy showed me at breakfast spring things - the little buds. They're little flowers that grow on trees and bushes. Harper: I saw them on my tree and they were white. Thomas: The leaves come back when it's spring time. Billie: The baby flowers come out and the baby bees. Aiden: The bees come out to collect nectar from the flowers - they make honey. Felix: Sometimes they have sharp claws on their tail. The bees are very poisonous. And they come out when their hive gets knocked down. What else do you know about spring? Taj: I'll be able to go in the spa. Isobel: Butterflies are everywhere. Lara: They have wings. William: Spiders can get there. Arabella: When are all the leaves going to come back on? Thomas: I think they come back right after lunch. Abbey: When the bees come the flowers hide. Clara: When the buds come they eat the flowers. Olivia: The flowers grow and the butterflies sleep- the flowers. Alex: When I was at the snow I was skiing- it was winter. Clara: It is too cold for the animals. Thomas: I think the growing leaves protect them in their home. Aiden: They go to their house. Isobel: Buds turn into flowers. Felix: Different birds have different nests.
