Transportation effi ciency The TGX Effi cientLine truck was designed to reduce the total cost of ownership, right down to the smallest detail. Because this also means that the truck is as kind to the environment as possible, it was named Green Truck 2011 by specialist German publications VerkehrsRundschau and TRUCKER.
The NEOPLAN Skyliner has been the star of the double-decker coaches for 40 years. The latest version presented in 2011 does more than just provide the luxury interior that customers expect – it also combines effi cient engine technology and cost-eff ective driving with low CO2 emissions thanks to sophisticated aerodynamics.
A new marine engine model with an ultra-long stroke from MAN Diesel & Turbo suits the “slow steaming” of many ship owners perfectly: for some years now, they have been saving fuel in sea transportation by slowing their vessels down. This means new propulsion needs, which are met by the ultra-long stroke of the two-stroke model.
Ecological expertise A new city bus from MAN Latin America can largely be run on natural gas, or alternatively on diesel. A prototype has drastically reduced emissions.
The MAN TGL Hybrid showcased at the 2010 International Commercial Vehicles Motor Show (IAA) proved itself in action: Together with a wholesaler, MAN Truck & Bus in Munich is collecting valuable data for further optimization from two distribution trucks. In 2011, MAN Truck & Bus also consolidated all its R&D activities in the fi eld of hybrid technology in a newly created Center of Competence.
With an output of 6 megawatts, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s new gas turbine can power a small town of 13,000 households – while being small enough to fi t into a double garage. This makes it ideal for the eco-friendly decentralized power generation of the future.

Leveraging partnerships and alliances to move ahead together has long been a matter of course for MAN. Three examples:
Licenses.
Manufacturers of large marine engines have been using MAN’s development know-how for more than
100 years to build engines in the immediate vicinity of shipyards – always keeping pace with the latest
technological advances. Rudolf Diesel himself built on the basis of this business model. And today
44 licensees, most of which are in Asia, benefi t from it – as does MAN of course.
Investments.
The enormous Chinese market promises growth but is diffi cult for a European company to tap into. In 2009,
MAN acquired 25% plus one share in the Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Sinotruk for this reason
and has since been working with the long-standing company on two levels: providing capital and transferring
technology and management. April 2011 saw the new joint SITRAK truck brand for emerging economies in
Asia and Africa unveiled.
Alliances.
One of the outcomes of cooperating with Krone, a North German manufacturer of agricultural machinery,
was the world’s strongest forage harvester, which is currently taking the North American market by
storm – profi t-boosting for Krone, profi le-enhancing for MAN. We are involved in more agricultural machinery
projects and since the external engine business for MAN Truck & Bus is being cultivated as a growth
segment, we are partnering up in other areas of the market too, which include the yacht building, workboat,
marine, rail vehicle, and power generation industries.
We combine know-how and bundle resources with strong partners in order to leverage the potential offered
by globalization and technological change.

Binding targets for CO2 reduction

Diversity
The more the level of diversity in the population is reflec-ted in the workforce, the greater understanding a company has for challenges and opportunities in the markets, and for the specific needs of its customers and of society.
Internationality
The MAN management team includes individuals from 36 countries. When new management positions become available at our international sites, local up-and-coming talent is preferred. The HR development programs strengthen intercultural understanding and promote intercommu-nication between the sites.
Balancing a career and family
In October 2011, MAN Diesel & Turbo opened a daycare center in Augsburg modeled on MAN’s daycare center in Munich. The new facility has places for 76 children of MAN employees and Augsburg families.
More women in management positions
October 2011 saw MAN underscore its goal of significantly increasing its percentage of female managers by signing a declaration on women in management positions together with other Dax 30 corporations. The promotion of women is also one objective of MAN’s management recruitment policy. Introduced in November 2010, this emphasizes the importance of diversity and prescribes that due consider-ation be given to female candidates. At 7.3%, the propor-tion of female managers is still low – too low. Mentoring and coaching programs are in place to help increase the proportion of women in management roles to 12% by 2014, a figure that reflects the percentage of women in our work-force in 2010.
UN Global Compact and international standards
Commitment to reliable business processes
MAN is a signatory to the United Nations Global Com-pact, thereby committing itself to complying with and actively supporting the Compact’s ten principles in its business practices. The principles fall under the headings of human rights, labor rights, environmental protection, and anticorruption. The Executive Board of MAN SE, the SE Works Council, and the International Metalworkers’ Federation (IMF) have also signed the Joint Declaration on Human Rights and Working Conditions in the MAN Group. This Agreement aims to create a reliable set of minimum standards that all MAN employees worldwide can refer to while also laying the ethical foundation for the actions of the Company and its employees.
Employee volunteering
Taking responsibility
MAN has been working with SOS Children’s Villages for several years now. Since 2011, MAN employees have also had the opportunity to become personally involved in this partnership. The program places a spotlight on topics that are important to MAN and builds bridges to the com-munity. The first projects involved MAN employees helping out at the SOS Vocational Training Center in Nuremberg and receiving a half-day off of work to do so. At present the center is providing support to almost 800 disadvantaged young people as they start their work- ing lives. In 2012, MAN will support further institutions in Germany, and is already planning projects at interna-tional locations.

TrucksTGX / Recipient of the “Truck of the Year 2008” award, the MAN TGX truck series sets standards in long-haul transport efficiency. The MAN TGX EfficientLine semitrailer tractor is strictly designed for reducing total cost of ownership.

Engines and componentsMAN Truck & Bus also produces engines (100 hp to 1,550 hp) for industrial applications – from industrial engines for generating electricity to engines for rail, water, and special-purpose vehicles. Diesel enginesMARINE PROPuLSION / MAN off ers marine diesel engines, rang-ing from GenSets with 450 kW for power supply on board to medium-sized four-stroke engines and giant two-stroke engines with 87 MW, as well as propellers, waste heat recovery systems, and complete propulsion systems.

TurbomachineryCOMPRESSORS / The company’s axial, centrifugal, isotherm, gear-type, pipeline or process gas screw compressors are key com-ponents for almost all industrial processes, such as the exploitation and processing of fossil energy sources, power generation or the production of base materials.
