“We are outside every day, either working, playing, or just walking. Almost every day someone in our family starts a conversation with “Guess what I saw outside today??” Nature, I guess you could say, helps to bond us together.” –Trisha Most of us have special memories of fun times spent outdoors growing up. Most of us have special memories of fun times spent outdoors growing up. Maybe we remember climbing our favorite tree or the camping spot our parents took us to by a creek where we caught tadpoles.

Play in nature has always been one of the most important and fun parts of growing up because Nature Rocks! Not only does it make your kids (and you, too!) happier, healthier, and smarter, but is also great for family bonding and easy on the pocketbook too.

Now there is a way to share that fun with others. Start a Nature Rocks Flock, and get outside together! A Nature Rocks Flock is a group of your friends, family, neighbors and others that you invite to join you on nature outings (or nature play-dates, or parties!) Have fun in Flocks!

Leaf Looting – count how many leaves you can collect in 3 minutes. The player with the most leaves gets 5 points, next most gets 4, and so on.

The Hill Roll – see how fast (timing) or far you can roll down a hill. Fastest/longest gets 5 points, next gets 4.

Animal Charades – bring pictures of animals and have players pick them out of a hat and act them out for others to guess. The player who guesses correctly gets to act next. Score based on best guesser and best actor!

Spend a night or weekend away in your own backyard. You don't need a big place for a big adventure. All you'll need is a tent and your family to join you. Pitch the tent, bring some flashlights, ghost stories and enjoy the time away from the world and with your kids. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Outfit your kids with a small bag with handles. Walk along the sidewalk gathering acorns, leaves and other interesting things. Add a theme to your treasure hunt for added fun (like gathering items with the same color or shape). Check out your loot together at home!

Grab the gang and have fun with a Nature Scavenger Hunt. Bring cameras, paper, pencils and your fun selves, and head out to your local park or nature preserve. Make a list of things to photograph or items to pick up (preferably things that don’t belong in nature), team up, then let the game begin. Make it even more fun by inviting friends, creating team t-shirts, having a picnic, and fashioning the trophy out of found objects!

Player Leaf The Hill Animal TOTAL Looting Roll Charades

Have fun with a race through a nature course! You can play it in your yard, in a neighborhood park or anywhere you can get your nature on.

Do the activities one at a time in the order in which they appear (see Activity Key). Score based on style (finesse, expression), skill (farthest, fastest, most), or completion (this best for the younger ones). Rate each player on a score from 1-5, then add up the total at the end to determine the winner! Be sure to give the winner(s) something special, like an extra s’more or even a trophy!
