TODAY’S READINGS & REFLECTION Gospel at the Procession with Palms — Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem (Luke 19:28-40). First Reading — In spite of my sufferings I am not disgraced. I am not put to shame (Isaiah 50:4-7). Psalm — My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? (Psalm 22). Second Reading — Christ emptied himself, and God filled this emptiness with exaltation (Philippians 2:6-11). Gospel — The account of Christ’s passion according to Luke (Luke 22:14 — 23:56 [23:1-49]). The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved. THE STORY OF OUR REDEMPTION We begin the final week of Lent with these familiar readings. This year, we hear the Passion from the Gospel of Luke. These readings for Palm Sunday and the Passion used to be read on successive Sundays. Now they are combined into a single feast, so that we may see the whole sweep of the glory and the suffering played out. Jesus accepts the adulation of the crowd, the foreshadowing of his glory in the Resurrection. He bids farewell to his disciples in his last Passover, and forgives his tormentors as he dies on the cross. Later this week, we enter the Holy Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, when the whole story of our redemption will play out once again.

(Lucas 19:28-40) Primera lectura — A pesar de mis sufrimientos no quedaré confundido (Isaías 50:4-7). Salmo — Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado? (Salmo 22 [21]).

From the Desk of the Pastor… Dear Sisters and Brothers in The Lord:

SPIRITUAL REFLECTIONS

BY POPE FRANCIS.

A TIME TO FOLLOW JESUS “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves

and take up their cross daily and follow me.” – Luke 9:23

Holy Week begins with the festive procession with olive branches as all the people welcome Jesus. But this week

continues to the mystery of Jesus’ death and resurrection. But what does living Holy Week mean to us? What does following Jesus on his journey to Calvary on his way to the cross and the

resurrection mean? In his earthly mission Jesus walked the roads of the holy land. He called 12 regular people to stay with him, to share his journey and to continue his mission. He chose them from among the people full of faith in God’s promises. He spoke to all without distinction: the great and the lowly, the rich young man and the poor widow, the powerful and the weak. He brought God’s mercy and forgiveness. He healed, comforted, understood, gave hope, brought all to the presence of God who

cares for every man and every woman, just as a good father and a good mother care for each one of their children. God does not

wait for us to go to him but it is he who moves towards us, without calculation, without quantification. That is what God is

like. God always takes the first step, God comes towards us.

What cross might Jesus be asking me to take up now in my life?

Blessings, Father José Francisco Herrera, Your servant

Bendiciones,

P. José Francisco Herrera, Su servidor
