WE ARE SO EXCITED TO WELCOME YOU BACKWE ARE SO EXCITED TO WELCOME YOU BACK

Carys Coulton-JonesCarys Coulton-JonesTheatre Manager

I couldn’t be happier to finally be writing this welcome message to you. It’s been an interesting time since my last one; our centenary came and went; our stage was filled not with performers but emergency food provisions; and our team were meeting colleagues through computer screens rather than greeting guests in our beautiful building. We know it’s been a hard year for everyone else too and we’re so excited to welcome you back to experience the magic of theatre once more with this packed programme.

It’s only right that after the 100th year of this local treasure, our first season back should be filled with national ones, so we’re delighted to be welcoming cricketing legend Sir Geoffrey Boycott, much-loved music star Tony Christie and the fantastically funny Jasper Carrott amongst a host of brilliant acts this autumn. Fans of folk and country in particular are in for double delight as both The Shires and Seth Lakeman will be gracing our stage while there are also appearances from Elkie Brooks, Eddi Reader, Lee Mead, Michael Portillo and even the brilliant Jason Manford.

Lastly, if you missed our fantastic centenary exhibition on stage this summer, there’s an extra chance to see it and find out about the Palace’s fascinating story at our Heritage Open Day event.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

YOUR SAFETYYOUR SAFETY

SPONSOR A SEATSPONSOR A SEAT

As part of our centenary celebrations, we’re offering you the chance to make your mark on the Palace’s history with our new Sponsor A Seat initiative. With sponsorships available for 3, 5 or 10 years, these make a lovely gift either for yourself or for someone with whom you share special memories of nights out at the Theatre. Sponsors will receive a special pack including a beautiful certificate and have their name displayed in the Theatre foyer. If the memories you treasure are from a particular location in the auditorium you can even choose the exact seat you’d like to sponsor, making your present even more personal. All proceeds from sponsorships will go towards the ‘Our Past, Your Future Fund’, a legacy scheme set up to honour our 100th birthday in 2020. As a thank you to the local community for their lasting support, the fund’s aim is to encourage and nurture Newark’s young talent by offering scholarships and funding to local people who aspire to careers in the arts. After this difficult past year, this support could be even more valuable than ever so your gift will benefit more than you or its recipient alone.

We know that many of our guests will still be a little nervous about visiting after so long. However we want to assure you that your safety, and that of our team, is our priority. While official restrictions may no longer be in place, we have maintained many of our COVID-secure procedures including enhanced cleaning, keeping protective screens in place at service points, keeping doors open to maximise ventilation and encouraging face coverings. We recommend that you check our website before shows for our latest guidance and keep an eye on your inbox for pre-show emails from us too. Our aim is to make sure your visit is as safe, stress-free and enjoyable as possible. To make booking worry-free as well, we’ve updated our refunds policy to guarantee your money back in case you’re experiencing COVID symptoms or are self-isolating when it comes to your event.

Another chance to celebrate last year’s centenary and experience our Centre Stage: 100 Years of the Palace Theatre exhibition if you missed it this summer. Opening the curtains on ten decades of history, this fantastic display stars stories and memories of this local much-loved landmark alongside a carefully curated selection of fascinating photographs and exhibits. No booking necessary.

The world’s finest tribute to Fleetwood Mac returns with a brand new show celebrating the very best of this iconic band, including a special blues set honouring the legendary Peter Green era. Rediscover the songs and performances that have ensured Fleetwood Mac’s place as one of the most loved groups of all time in this fantastic show personally endorsed by Mick Fleetwood.

The Ballroom Boys Ian Waite and Vincent Simone are back with a brand new show! The fabulous Strictly Come Dancing stars promise another wonderful evening of dance, comedy and song with beautiful costumes, gorgeous lighting and jaw-dropping routines with their stunning dance partners and a world class singer. VIP tickets include a pre-show meet and greet and are available from Box Office.

This laughter-filled parody of the classic D.H. Lawrence novel will bring you high drama, high comedy and highly-raised eyebrows. Lady Chatterley welcomes her husband, Clifford, home from a war that has left the world in tatters. With Clifford’s legs also in tatters, he arrives at Wragby Hall confined to a wheelchair and clutching his secret. Despite her husband’s impotence, a subject that everyone struggles to avoid, Constance entertains the idea that one day they could have a child. However, as Clifford’s obsession for industrial pursuits heightens, Constance embarks on a passionate and curiously experimental affair with Mellors, the estate gamekeeper. Expect long contemplative looks into the middle distance, moments of touching drama, plenty of farce and a gentle stroke of innuendo.

Starring Vicki Michelle (‘Allo ‘Allo!), Vicky Entwistle (Coronation Street) and Leah Bell, Dirty Dusting is a laugh-out-loud show following Gladys, Olive and Elsie, three “vintage style” cleaning ladies who, threatened with redundancy, chance on an ‘unconventional’ way of earning some extra cash, starting a saucy chat line! After all, their age and appearance won’t matter on the telephone and providing they can keep this a secret from Dave, their boss…they could be onto a winner! Written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, this production is directed by Leah Bell who injects this hilarious play with a fresh and lively approach coupled with her own unique comedic style.
