VISIBLE & VOCAL ISSUE 4 2015 The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce www.saratoga.org WE BELIEVE . . . WE CAN MAKE SARATOGA COUNTY ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST PLACES TO LIVE AND WORK! With the support of Blue Shield of Northeastern New York and the volunteer leadership provided by the Chamber’s Health and Wellness Council, chaired by Susan Halstead of Family Vision Care, we are inviting every member to take part in our celebration of June as Employee Wellness Month in Saratoga County. This is our second annual Employee Wellness Month celebration as we invite everyone to join our #healthysaratoga movement with the goal of making Saratoga County one of the healthiest places to live and work. Our first-organized event is the Twin Bridges Council #healthysaratoga employ- ee wellness lunchtime walk, on Friday, June 5th. Sponsored by Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, employers and their employees are invited to this one-mile walk which starts and ends at the Clifton Park – Halfmoon Emergency Management Center. Registration that day is at 11:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 12:00 noon. There will be door prizes for attendees, a light and healthy lunch, and a great excuse to join with some of your fellow employees to walk together in support of a great mission. On Thursday, June 18th, we will host our second annual Health & Wellness Networking Mixer, at the Roosevelt Baths, in the Saratoga Spa State Park, from 5 to 7 p.m. Attendees will enjoy drink specials, healthy hors d’oeuvres, the chance to tour the Roosevelt Baths and to meet with and learn about the many health and wellness organizations that now belong to the Chamber’s Health and Wellness Council. Exhibit space for members of the Council is again FREE. This event is also graciously sponsored by Blue Shield of Northeastern New York. You do NOT need to attend either of these events to participate. Instead, the Chamber is again encouraging members to do some- thing with your employees to demonstrate a commitment to employee wellness. Take your own lunch time walk. Invite a member of the health and wellness council to pro- vide your employees with expert advice and guidance on ways to improve their personal health. Setup an exercise challenge within your workplace or have a team of employ- ees participate in a local walk or run or cycling event. When you do something, snap a photo and post it on social media using the hashtag #healthysaratoga. Our #healthysaratoga movement was launched early in 2014. In the first year, we saw participation in our Health and Wellness Council increase from 25 compa- nies to nearly 150. There were well over 1,200 posts online using the #healthysaratoga hashtag in 2014. Within New York State, Saratoga County improved from the fifth to the third healthiest county in the state in 2014. Throughout the month of June, we will be emailing our members with ideas and advice to establish your own employee wellness effort. We hope you’ll get involved and join the #healthysaratoga movement.
