WE GATHER TOGETHERPrelude Deep River Eugénie Rocherolle WelcomeConfession and ForgivenessLet us confess our sins before God and one another.
Holy God, we confess that the distractions and busyness of our lives make it difficult to listen deeply to your voice. Transform our priorities so that we make space in our lives to be quiet and listen to you. Jesus, seeker of the lost, we confess to becoming so shaped by the values of this age that your call on our lives is increasingly hard to hear. Transform our values so that they are shaped by your concern for the unloved and unlovely, and for the weak and powerless in our society. Jesus, bearer of reconciliation, we confess that all too often in our faith communities, we harbor thoughts which estrange and make us hostile towards one another.Transform our hearts so that we are filled with the desire to forgive one another and to make peace. Jesus, source of our faith, we confess that we forget all too quickly the words we say, and pray, and sing, in our time of worship. Transform our lives so that they remain connected to you at all times and in all places.

We are glad you are here and we pray God will be real to you as you worship. Bethel is a Reconciling in Christ congregation. A Time for Silent Prayer
Jesus, Friend and Holy Redeemer, may the posture of our lives be shaped by listening to you;the goodness of our lives be shaped by love for you; and the service of our lives be shaped by a humility like yours. This we pray in your name. Amen
Opening Hymn For All the Faithful Women verse 1, 7, 2, and last
1 For all the faithful women who served in days of old, to you shall thanks be given; to all, their story told. They served with strength and gladness in tasks your wisdom gave. To you their lives bore witness, proclaimed your pow’r to save.
Martha and Mary7 We sing of busy Martha, who toiled with pot and pan while Mary sat in silence to hear the word again. Christ, keep our hearts attentive to truth that you declare, and strengthen us for service when work becomes our prayer.
2 O God, for saints and servants, those named and those unknown, in whom through all the ages your light of glory shone, we offer glad thanksgiving and fervent prayer we raise that, faithful in your service, our lives may sing your praise.
Last All praise to God the Father! All praise to Christ the Son! All praise to God the Spirit, who binds the church as one! With saints who went before us, with saints who witness still, we sing glad alleluias and strive to do your will.
GreetingThe grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And also with you.

WE HEAR GOD’S WORDFirst Reading Genesis 18:1-10a
The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. He said, “My lord, if I find favor with you, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Make ready quickly three measures of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.” Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
They said to him, “Where is your wife Sarah?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” aThen one said, “I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.”

Second Reading Colossians 1:15-28
[Christ Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.
And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him—provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. I, Paul, became a servant of this gospel.
I am now rejoicing in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am completing what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church. I became its servant according to God’s commission that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery that has been hidden throughout the ages and generations but has now been revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. It is he whom we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone in all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
P: Holy Word, Holy Wisdom.C: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation
The Holy Gospel according to Luke the tenth chapter.
The people respond: Glory to you, O God.
Now as [Jesus and his disciples] went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
The people respond: Praise to you, O Christ.

Now that sheet rock and taping are done, the French doors and new windows are in and the painting is well underway, everything starts to fall into place. The new kitchen looks light and airy and soon there will be new cabinets going in. Stay tuned for the next Open House.
#Summerfun The cloudy and rainy days have not dampened the enthusiasm of the kids at Day Camp. Last week, the kids were at OMSI; this week is berry picking. And we’ve discovered that the weekly swim sessions are so much fun that short naps in the warm summer afternoons are essential!
