7th Annual Operation Inasmuch is April 21st
Operation Inasmuch is a one-day blitz of work projects that involves the entire congregation in serving the community. The event has grown to include Lutheran congregations throughout the South Carolina Synod.
Christ the King is partnering again this year with Good Shepherd and Resurrection to organize projects. We are also cooperating with Project Hope, a Richland County Sheriff Department program that assists senior citizens with home maintenance and security to help them stay in their homes. There will be a mix of projects to give everyone an opportunity to serve—organizing donations at Harvest Hope, sewing and stuffing pillows, home repairs and yard work, picking up roadside trash, baking cookies.
Sign-up sheets for volunteers will be included in the bulletins in March. If you have an idea for a service project or if you can serve as a project leader, contact Pam Williams 776-2311 or Laurie Morris 238-8379.

Boy Scouts of Troop 400
A hearty Scout Thanks to all who made possible the
wonderful donation of our new flag pole!
We have been busy! Our recent trip to Camp Kinard
on the Lutheran Scout Retreat netted us no wins in
any events, but we did come awfully close on a
couple of our events and had a bunch of fun
competing!
We have also had a new addition to the Troop. Our
new Scout is Corey Clark. He was recruited by
Shamar Vick. So welcome, Corey and good job,
Shamar!
February is hectic to say the least. We have spent the
past two Saturdays “Scouting for Food” (thanks,
Ara). You noticed some of us among you in the
pews on Scout Sunday and some of us attended
across the street at Church of the Cross. And this
month’s activities will culminate with the Blue and
Gold Banquet. Additionally, our Bear Cub Scouts
and WeBLoS joined the Boy Scouts for a day in the
swamp at Congaree State Park where they worked on
their woodsman and naturalist merit badges.
Our Boy Scout leaders have changed. Senior Patrol
Leader was Ryan Pichoff and is now Austin Freie.
Assistant patrol Leader was Cole Harding and is now
John Harmon. It is a necessary part of each Scout’s
individual development to experience life in the role
of the leader. In these roles, the boys lead the weekly
Troop meeting as well as task organizing and
executing our camping adventures.
Our Cub Scout Pack has grown by four in the last
month! We are welcoming twin Tiger Cubs Logan
and Loudon Robertson. Mason Stewart (Scout
Nicholas Lawhorn’s cousin) is also a Tiger Cub.
Tiger cub, Mason Stewart (Scout Nicholas
Lawhorn’s cousin,) and finally, a potential bear Cub,
whom we have yet to meet, who is a neighbor of our
twin Tiger cubs, Logan and Louden.. So long as we
can keep them interested in Scouting, we will
continue to develop Boy Scouts into responsible and
respectful young men whom all of you at Christ the
King can be proud of.

A group of ELCA leaders met with staff of the U.S. State Department Feb. 1-2 to help make nutrition a priority and support the ―1,000 Day Movement‖ — an international initiative to promote maternal and child nutrition in the 1,000 days between pregnancy and age 2. At the meeting ELCA members, along with other religious leaders, learned about the government’s work on nutrition in the United States and overseas.
―The death of a child is tragic, and the permanent (cognitive and physical delay) of millions of children every year is preventable,‖ said the Rev. Jessica Crist, bishop of the ELCA Montana Synod, who attended the meeting.
Crist said the movement brings together public and private, faith-based and secular organizations ―to advocate for focused attention on the first 1,000 days of life. Simple, inexpensive measures like prenatal nutrition, breast feeding, clean water and hand washing can make the difference in the lives of millions of children worldwide. And the difference is not only personal — it affects the whole society.‖
The State Department has $95 million budgeted for this work in countries that have agreed to make maternal and infant nutrition a priority, said Crist. ―In contrast, Americans spend $1 billion on Super Bowl snacks in one night.‖
Organized by Bread for the World, the meeting at the State Department included conversations with staff of the U.S. Agency for International Development, Global Health Initiative and the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
Other ELCA members at the meeting were Sharon Heck, Whittier, Calif.; Gaylord Thomas, Chicago; and staff from Women of the ELCA and the ELCA Washington Office.
Women of the ELCA passed a resolution at their 2011 convention that commits the organization to supporting the 1,000 Day Movement. ―Women of the ELCA has been working with Bread for the World in leading an ecumenical effort to assist Christians to live out the 1,000 Day commitment,‖ said Inez Torres Davis, director for justice, Women of the ELCA.

Welcome to Christ the King There were 3 Visitation Teams organized to follow-up and visit with guests who come to Christ the King after they go home at the committee meeting on February 8th. Team 1 Joe and Barbara Park Team 2 Jerry Lamb, Greg Stone and Ken Butler Team 3 Laurie Morris, Dorothy Yarborough and Ara Adams Each team will rotate checking the Guest Book for Visitors and then notify the other teams to start the visits. Note: The new guest book is a gift from Jay and Laurie Morris. It was noted that the new Greeters schedule for the year is now posted on the ministry board in the hallway along with the Ushers Schedule. A mission statement for the team was discussed and will be continued next month. The ―Welcome to Christ the King‖ team meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm in the fellowship hall. All congregation members are encouraged to participate. We value your thoughts and ideas.

Opportunities
If you are not yet involved in a Sunday School class on Sunday Mornings before worship, we encourage you to join one of the ongoing classes. Pastor Karen leads the Pastor's Sunday School Class in Classroom 1 from 9:15am – 10:15am. This class is currently studying the Gospel Lessons for Lent. There is also a CTK Sunday School Class led by different members of the church in Classroom 3 from 9:15am – 10:15am. The CTK class is studying the book: Evangelism without Additives, what if sharing your faith meant just being yourself? by Jim Henderson. When is the last time you attempted the Ordinary? Ara Adams will lead this course. The CTK class has begun a ―Noisy Offering‖ collection. The funds collected will be used to support various causes in the Midlands. Please join us! There is no registration required for either class.
