From the Pastor’s Desk This morning I wanted to share with you a blog posted some time

ago by David Manner who is employed by the Kansas Nebraska

Convention of Southern Baptist. David has been in our church to lead

worship and has a tremendous love for the Lord and His church. He wrote:

What compels you to do what you do…Convenience or Calling?

Convenience responds with, “This is what I was trained to do.” Calling

responds with, “This is what I was made to do.” Convenience: Fitting in

well with a person’s activities and plans; Comfortable; Easily accessible;

Suited or favorable to one’s own needs. Calling: A personal invitation

from God to carry out a unique task; A strong inner impulse prompted by

conviction of divine influence.

In his Worship Heart Cries blog this week Ed Steele wrote, “He

(Jesus) calls us to Himself, first. Before the crowds and calls of ministry,

before the confusion and craziness of everyday life, before our attempts of

doing, He calls us to Himself.”

• Convenience is a vocation; Calling is a ministry.

• Convenience is a profession; Calling is a purpose.

• Convenience is in the mean time; Calling is for a lifetime.

• Convenience compares to; Calling is contented by.

• Convenience focuses on withdrawals; Calling focuses on investments.

• Convenience is egoistic; Calling is altruistic.

• Convenience is guarded; Calling is transparent.

• Convenience is independent; Calling is collaborative.

• Convenience is upwardly mobile; Calling is inwardly and outwardly

mobile.

• Convenience is an occupation; Calling is a mission.

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do,

forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those

things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the

upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

Are we called to worship and serve? Or do we merely engage with

the church and our world when it is convenient? This morning, Mark Wint

(IMB missionary) will be preaching in our morning worship time. Mark

and his bride Melynda, have experienced God’s calling and left behind

many of the conveniences we take for granted as they went to serve the

Lord. Tonight, Brother Loren will be speaking -- I’ve never known an-

yone with a deeper sense of calling about sharing Jesus with the lost. I

pray that today you will be challenged, called, and blessed!

Under His wing,

Pastor Tim

Upcoming Outreach Events Oct 3—Goddard Fall Festival Andover Fall Festival Oct 10—Maize Fall Festival

Oct 17—Haysville Fall Festival

Well, we survived another 10 days at the Kansas

State Fair with the John 3:16 horseshoe ministry.

First, we want to thank everyone who was praying

for good weather. God answered that prayer and

weather wise we had one of the best years ever.

Thursday and Sunday were a little warmer but we

had plenty of wind to make it tolerable. We had a

very good turnout of workers; sixty individuals

came out and helped us. Of those 60, 35 were from

Believers. In total we had 154 work days, which

means a number of the 60 did more than one day.

First Southern Baptist church of Hutchinson was a

great help by sending 6 men to help us set up the

booth before the fair started and 14 of them helped

us at the booth. A great big thank you to everyone

who helped by praying, giving financially or by

being there, we could not make it without you. Our

space was in a high traffic area again and we

stayed busy most of the time. The middle of the

week was fairly slow but the weekends and Dil-

lon’s day on Monday were more than busy. We

were able to give out 2,750 horse shoes and every-

one who received a shoe heard the Gospel shared

using John 3:16. As usual we had people who were

interested until they heard that they were required

to listen to a presentation from the Bible. Our shar-

ers had very good conversations and 164 people

filled out a follow up card after praying to receive

Jesus as their personal Savior. We are starting our

follow up right away. We will be visiting with

those close to Believers. Several other churches

will visit the ones near to them. The rest we will

get help from the evangelism follow up people at

NAMB.

Well, counting Mulvane and the state fair we have

two down and 4 to go. On October 3 we are sched-

uled to be at Goddard and Andover for fall festival

days. There are also other activities that weekend

that may tie up some of our regulars so please pray

about helping us at both events. We need help with

the games and information booth. There are sig-

nup sheets for both Goddard and Maize days in the

foyer. Please let myself or Gail know if you can

help with the horse shoe ministry at Goddard and/

or Andover.

One of the great joys for me when doing the horse-

shoe ministry is how God uses it to help people

overcome their fear and to start sharing the Gospel.

It’s a joy to see someone lead their first person to

Christ. This is what makes this ministry so unique

and useable because there are so many different

ways to serve.

As of the finish of the state fair we have given

away 45,000 horseshoes and all have heard the

Gospel and many lives have been changed.

Love in Christ
