Revolutionary 3D PrintingRapid PrototypingFunctional prototypes created by Rutland Plastics’in-house Objet Connex350™ 3D printer mimic thefinal manufactured part to an unprecedenteddegree. High resolution durable prototypes withsmooth surfaces, fine details and moving parts canbe produced.

Complex assemblies that include rigid as well asflexible properties can be realistically simulated. By blending two prototyping ingredients in varyingquantities during the printing process we can createmodels containing a mixture of flexible, rigid,coloured and transparent materials. These advancedrapid prototypes can be painted, machined, drilledor chrome plated. This enables form, fit and functionto be accurately tested.

Low-volume ProductionThe advanced 3D printing process can offer acost effective alternative for low volumeproduction. Depending on the number requiredand the complexity of the part, the Connex350™can either print the actual component or print amould cavity at a fraction of the cost of a steel oraluminium mould. The cavity is placed in one ofRutland Plastic’s standard bolsters to produce an injection moulded part.

Safe & SecureElectrofusion is an effective method of joiningplastic parts in specific applications. Wire isincorporated into the surface of the moulding toproduce a continuous coil that acts like a heatingelement when an electric current is passedthrough it.

Our Patented ProcessAlways innovative, Rutland Plastics has refinedand developed the idea to create our ownpatented process which has opened up moreopportunities to join plastics simply and quickly.

We bury a lead-in wire beneath the subsequentcoil winding. This concept reduces the risk ofwires shorting during the welding process – a failure commonly associated with other designsand fittings of this type.

Gas assisted injection moulding reduces costs,improves quality and has a wide variety ofapplications. Rutland Plastics works withcustomers from an increasing number ofindustries to produce innovative solutions toproblems using gas injection.

Heat StakingThis quick and economical technique can beused for fixing inserts or making a permanentjoint without rivets or screws. A pillar or ‘stake’from one moulding is inserted through a hole inthe opposing part. Heat is used to soften thestake which, under pressure, forms a head. Whenfixing threaded inserts or pins, heat is used tosoften the material to enable easy insertion. Oncecooled it shrinks around the part and holds it firm.

GluingRutland Plastics offer a cost effective solution toapplying adhesive. Using our fully automatedglue dispensing system parts are glued swiftlywith guaranteed consistency.
