Give thanks for the group of year 12 students committed to XII and supporting each other. Pray that all students would maintain perspective and know that faith in Jesus is the most important thing of all. Pray that all students would study diligently and be able to remember and understand the things they are studying. Ask God to help each student to be a faithful witness to their friends during their exams and as they celebrate afterwards. Pray that God will direct the future of each student as they enter a new phase of life and that they will trust God for everything. Pray that students would prioritise their time so they can spend quality time with God each day. Pray that the students’ families and friends would be understanding and supportive during the HSC. Pray that as students await their results, they would trust in God and be free of worry. Pray for safety, fun and a great time of learning from God’s Word at XII Escape in Nelson Bay in late November 2015. We tracked down Angela Streeter (AS) and Jei Strolin (JS) and asked about how they’re going 6 weeks out from their exams. So how is your HSC preparation going? AS: Okay. Some subjects are more engaging than others, so I need to keep track of where I spend my time. JS: Steady pattern at the moment, but I expect to pick up the pace as it gets closer. How nervous are you? AS: I fluctuate a bit between relaxed feelings and stress, which can get emotional. JS: I’m feeling confident this far out. I guess I’m in the lull between Trials and gearing up again. What subject do you like the most? AS: Legal Studies JS: Maths And what subject do you struggle with? AS: English JS: English What are your future plans? AS: Hopefully do well enough to get into law but also interested in secondary school teaching. JS: Advertising / Marketing at uni and eventually end up with my own graphic design/ media business. What has encouraged you this year? AS: Teachers have given lots of positive input inspiring me to press on. JS: My parents have been a great support and Jesus’ words in Matthew 6 to not worry about tomorrow have helped. What will you miss the most about school? AS: The close attention teachers provide. I don’t think uni lecturers will take the same interest. JS: My parents packing my lunch each day. Have you had an aim throughout the year? AS: To try my best without becoming a slave to my desk. I wanted to enjoy the year as well. JS: Trying to get 80 and maintain good relationships with friends. Do you have any advice for those about to embark on the HSC journey? AS: Don’t focus on individual assignment results. Keep the bigger picture in mind and don’t neglect your relationship with God. JS: Start writing notes early. Work consistently, Don’t be deceived by the calendar and think “I’ve got heaps of time”. The list includes Secondary School Teaching, Police Force, Primary School Teaching, School Counsellor, Sport & Recreation, Science, History, Year 13 Gap Year, Skiing in Canada, Civil Engineering, Working, Digital Media, Special Education Teaching, Hospitality, The purpose of this News Update is to help you to pray in an informed way for our year 12 brothers and sisters, many from Jannali Anglican Church, who are undertaking their Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams over the upcoming month. This year the group has met each week in the Ministry Centre. We typically start with input from the Bible. During each term we have a few nights where we enjoy the company of the other youth groups in what is ingeniously called our Combined Time. During this time, we hear a Bible talk from one of the leaders and participate in a range of different activities. The rest of the night is in youth groups, where we have trivia challenges, listen to music, and hang out with the leaders. Nights out have included a trip to Miranda for a Date Night dinner, a weekend away with our Evening Church, an SMS car hide ’n’ seek challenge and a Zone 3 Laser Tag night. We still have our mystery bus tour to come. We also had a weekend away at the KYCK convention in Katoomba. The group is looking forward to spending 8 days at Nelson Bay after the HSC to celebrate the end of their schooling life and spend time looking at the Bible. This year has been a wonderful time for everyone in XII to grow in their knowledge and love of Christ, and to see God at work. XII Escape is an alternative way to celebrate “Schoolies”, the post-HSC holiday many Year 12 students embark on after the completion of their final exams. This year our Year 12 students will travel to sunny Nelson Bay in Port Stephens, where they will enjoy 8 days of adventure, relaxation, and shared discussion around God’s word as we explore what it says about living as followers of Jesus in God’s world. Accommodation is in luxury townhouses. Some of the optional activities booked include a dolphin watch cruise, a sand boarding adventure, the mighty thundaraft, go karting, bowling (both forms), surfing, camel riding, tennis, swimming with sharks, and much more. Sound like too much? There’s also plenty of time for doing nothing at all!
