Who we are

We are the Equalities and Human Rights Committee of the Scottish Parliament.

Committees are small groups of people who are Members of the Scottish Parliament also called MSPs.

We are politicians. Politicians are people who make decisions and laws for the country you live in.

The Scottish people decide who is a Member of the Scottish Parliament by voting for them in elections.

The Scottish Parliament makes laws in Scotland. It speaks out for people in Scotland.

Equalities mean everyone is treated fairly and has the same chance to enjoy a great life.

It means you don’t get treated differently because of things like where you come from, what you believe in or what disability you have.

Human rights are basic rights and freedoms that every person in the world should have for their whole life.

Our committee meets to talk about equalities and human rights in Scotland.

We want to know what you think the Scottish Government and public authorities can do to make things better at the moment and later on.

The Scottish Government decides how to run the country.

Public authorities are organisations like councils and health services. They make decisions that affect you.

If you work for an organisation helping your community and want to tell us the views of the people you support, please contact us.
