Dear Parents We are almost at the end of 2017. The year has gone so fast. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and positive involvement in the school this year. Our school community is amazing and it has been great to be a part of it. It was fantastic to see so many of our parent group at our afternoon tea last Friday. At assembly on Monday morning we showed a quick video of the year and all the wonderful things our students have been a part of. It was great to look back at. These special events and activities would not have been possible without such hardworking staff, positive students and supportive families. We look forward to some new and exciting possibilities next year. Community night tonight will be a fun way to finish of the year as a group and we look forward to seeing everyone there. Our students will be part of a small performance section of the night, organised by Mrs Claire Sexton. We will also have a few awards and some recognition of families who will be leaving us. We do finish the year on Friday at 1:30pm. Grade 6 Graduation Night Last night we had the Grade 6 graduation tea at the National Hotel Complex. Jess, Will and Baylee are in the final stages of their time at Eppalock PS and will be missed in 2018. It was a great night which was attended by a variety of people way more important than me. Grade 6 students are encouraged to invite past staff and adults who have been influential in their schooling at Eppalock PS – it is a credit to Jess, Baylee and Will that most people invited were able to find the time to accept the invitation. We hope our grade 6 group enjoyed their night and wish them all the best for Secondary College next year. Awards At community night tonight we will be awarding our prestigious grade 6 award. Special thanks to the Lions Club for donating the money to our school to make this happen. We are also introducing awards at the grade 4 & 5 level for students who demonstrate our school values regularly as well as a Living Green award to a student who displays a real passion for the environment. These new awards are thanks to the Strathfieldsaye and District Community Enterprise and Bendigo Bank. We will also be announcing a 2018 School Captain for Eppalock PS tonight. Students in 5/6 next year have had the opportunity to make a speech and the whole school student group has voted. This will be announced around the same time as the awards. Reports End of year reports have been handed out to students today. Staff will have the opportunity to discuss individual needs of students with each other during the last couple of days of term in preparation for 2018. Early next year parents will be invited to attend information nights and make contact with their child’s teacher to discuss any specific needs. Reading and attendance At school today we gave a number of students a reading award for reading over 200 nights for the year. It is great to see so many students reaching this milestone. Well done to: Annemieka, Chloe, Eddie, Katie, Mikaylah, Will J, Violet (for her effort in a short time at Eppalock), April, Hamish, Caileb, Charli, Dasha, Henry, Banjo, Maddie, Pippa, Xavier, Tilly, Jess & Zac. We also had some students achieve 100% attendance for the second semester. Well done to: Miller and Annemieka Strathfieldsaye Carols, Graduation & Community night—We had a great night last week at the Strathfieldsaye carols at Strathfieldsaye Primary School. Thanks to those students and families who supported the night by attending. Special thanks to Claire Sexton for organising and preparing the students. We were the only school with Preps in the group and they did us proud. They looked amazing and were very brave to get up on stage first!! This group will perform again tonight. 2018 After school care—We have had a few informal inquiries about After School Care at Eppalock PS in 2018. If your family would benefit from the school providing this in some capacity please come and speak with Mr O’Neill at school. If we get enough definite interest on particular nights it is something we would revisit, we just need the numbers. At this stage, Kelly sports will provide a mixed sporting program, which caters for all ability levels, for interested families on the most popular night. More information about that early next year. You are always welcome to come and discuss any specific family needs with me at school to see what we can put in place. School holiday jobs—Over the extended holiday break we do rely on our nearby families for the odd/regular job at school. Thanks to those families who have performed these roles consistently this year. If you can help out with any of the following jobs please let us know. Once again, there will be a job roster left at the front door of the building for those who re available. Our chooks and watering of the garden areas are the most vital roles if you can help out

Mr Mccartney Hello and thank you for welcoming me into the Eppalock Primary School community. I both grew up and completed all of my schooling in Bendigo before undertaking a Bachelor of Outdoor and Environmental Education at La Trobe University in 2012. After completing my degree in 2015, I then undertook a Post-Graduate degree in a Masters of Teaching. During Term 2 of this year I began work at Eaglehawk North Primary School as an Integration Aide across the school’s prep rooms. At the beginning of Term 4 I was offered the opportunity to grade share a 3/4 classroom. I am incredibly excited to be joining your school community and cannot wait for 2018 to start. If you see me around the school please feel free to come and say hello as I look forward to meeting you all! Hope everybody has a safe and happy Christmas/New Year period. Thanks everyone – see you in 2018!! Mr O’Neill
