It is hard to believe but we have reached our final week of the autumn term and Christmas is almost
upon us. This has been a busy yet very successful term at Bell Lane Primary School. We are delighted
and very proud of the hard work that everyone has dedicated to our school this term – staff, children,
parents and governors.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Christmas Fair. If you were here, you will know it
was a lovely atmosphere and the quality of the stalls, all laid on by the children and their teachers,
was of a very high standard. You will find some pictures of the fair in this newsletter.
We would like to wish every child, parent and staff member of the school a peaceful holiday with
their families. Take the time to reflect on your own achievements and set yourself aspirations you wish
to fulfil in 2018. On behalf of all the staff, thank you for the generous gifts, cards and kind messages –
it really is very much appreciated.
On Wednesday 13th
December, the school
celebrated the festive
season with a delicious
Christmas Lunch. A big
thank you to all the
kitchen staff (Gina,
Jane and Gertride) for
their hard work in
preparing the tasty
food. The children
enjoyed eating their
Christmas Roast!
As you may be aware, Mr Smith (Year 5 teacher), Miss Mallet (Reception
teacher) and Meera (Nursery) will be leaving us at the end of the autumn
term to begin new adventures. Whilst it is sad to see these teachers leave,
we are sure you will appreciate that careers move on and life changes
which often impact on a teacher being able to remain with us. Both
teachers will be greatly missed but we are sure you join us in wishing them
every success in their new roles. We look forward to welcoming Miss Hyder
who will teach in year five and to Miss Madhewoo who will teach in one
of our reception classes.
Please remember,
children are due
back to school on
Tuesday 2nd
January 2018.
We have recently had the pleasure of enjoying the key stage one wonderful performance on stage at
Bell Lane Primary School. The children performed a fantastic play based on the birth of Jesus, ‘The
Nativity’, and we were all very proud of them.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents and staff for their help and support in
making it a memorable performance.
We received some great feedback from Pierre, one of our School Governors, who came to watch: “I
would like to register my appreciation of the Nativity Play put on yesterday at Bell Lane. The excitement
and happiness of the parents and the children involved was quite something to behold. So hearty
congratulations on my part to all those concerned and I look forward to any events of this kind in the
future.”
The year six children had the
opportunity to watch a Macbeth
performance. The cast were very
realistic and had the children gripped
from beginning to end. As part of the
workshop, children explored the
different characters and were taught
tips to help them understand
Shakespearean language. It was great
fun!
The Christmas fair at Bell Lane Primary School was as ever a wonderful community event
for all of our families. It brought children and parents together to share the fun whilst at
the same time raising much needed funds for the school.
The children had been busy designing and preparing their products to sell during the
event. We had a great range of Christmas delights – from scrumptious foods, unique
gifts and fun filled games.
Thank you to Mrs Atkin who put lots of effort in preparing the event and making it a
huge success. Also, thank you to all parents who came along to support the event and
buy some of the charming products.
On Thursday 14th December 2017, ten
children from KS2 participated in a
sports event at Hendon Leisure
Centre. The children had the
opportunity to participate in a variety
of different sports and they had an
amazing time!
A group for parents and carers of children with
learning differences and additional needs has
been set up at Bell Lane Primary School. We
meet every two weeks on Friday mornings 9am –
10.30 am.
It’s a great chance to meet other parent/carers
to share strategies and support each other.
Our next meeting is 19th January 2018 when we
have a visiting speaker from Barnet’s Family
Resilience Service to talk about Children and
Young People’s Wellbeing Provision.
Speak to Wendi Udosen (Children’s Centre) or
Julia Hughes (SENCo) for more information.
Future dates: 19 January, 2 & 23 February, 9 & 23
March
The school council requested
that we take part in the nation-
wide charity event, where
children and adults wear a
Christmas Jumper. This was a
great success and it was wonderful to see everyone’s festive jumpers. The school
managed to raise £292.47 which will go towards the chosen charity, Save the Children.
Thank you to everyone who helped support this great cause!
Year Five had a great time at the
Natural History Museum, where they
learnt all about Earthquakes and
Volcanoes during a workshop. Their
behaviour was exemplary!
Our attendance for the Autumn 2
term is as follows:
EYFS – 92.8%
KS1 – 94.2%
KS2 – 96.2% Remember – our target is 96% and above!
