The Main Street Paint Out on Saturday October 18 from 1:30 4
p.m. is the kick-off event for Sedona Arts Centers 10th Annual
Sedona Plein Air Festival, an eight day celebration of outdoor
painting with 30 nationally recognized artists from all over the
United States. Sponsored by Sedona Main Street Program to bring
all these artists in one place at the same time. Look for their
easels set up all along the plazas and courtyards in Uptown
(N. State Route 89A). Its a wonderful opportunity to witness the
creation of a painting from start to finish within the two & a half
hour Paint Out. Meet and interact with the artists at work in the
open air, as they capture the beauty & charm of Uptown Sedona.
This free event kicks-off the Sedona Arts Centers Festival. The

the remaining nineteen are coming from California, Colorado,
Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania,
Utah, Vermont, Washington DC and Wisconsin. Each year
approximately thirty percent of the artists are new to the Festival
and this year is no exception there are 11 new artists this year,
both from Arizona and nine of the other states represented here.
Immediately following, from 4 - 5:00 pm, the paintings created
during the Main Street Paint Out will be quickly framed,
exhibited and for sale at Sedona Arts Center, on the corner of
Main Street (N. SR 89A) and Art Barn Road in Uptown Sedona.

Remember to get ready for the Trick or Treaters coming to your storefronts on Halloween,
October 31st (5 - 8 pm), which falls on a Friday this year!
This will be the 28th Annual Uptown Safe and Fun Trick or Treat, thanks to you. As
always, your participation makes it happen, so please keep your doors open and provide
treats.
Stock up on Halloween treats for approximately 1500 - 2000 good ghouls and goblins, and
schedule your store to stay open from 5 - 8 pm. We hope you'll also treat them with
haunting music, fun decorations and maybe a trick or two to accompany the sweets. You
and your employees can add to the fun by wearing costumes.
This night attracts all ages, so consider having info/coupons for hand-out to welcome folks
back for Holiday and future shopping.
Many of your friends and neighbors will be searching for an available parking space, so
let's make it easy for them! Please encourage your employees to park in designated
employee spaces or park at Sedona's Public Parking Lot on Schnebly Road and carry a
flashlight.
NOTE: For the second year, SMSP and City Parks & Rec are hosting costume contest at
Canyon Breeze Plaza starting at 5:30 with 4 contest categories: little ones up to age 6,
children 7-14, youth 15 & up, and groups/couples. First, second and third place prizes will
be awarded. Also, the Thriller-Ghost Rave performances, complements of community
dancers, will be back again. This year they'll perform on Jordan Road between the
pedestrian crosswalk and Mesquite Avenue from 5 - 8 pm, so that small section of the road
will be closed to through traffic.
Trick or Treats sponsored by participating Merchants (YOU);
Costume Contest sponsored by Sedona Main Street Program and City Parks & Recreation
with prizes donated by National Processing Solutions, Tlaquepaque Toy Town, Zaineys
Yogurt, Music Boxes & More, Dominos Pizza, Sedona Heritage Museum and Sedona

SEDONAS WALK THROUGH TIME
PROJECT VISION: The City of Sedonas Historic Preservation Commission in collaboration with
the Sedona Historical Society and the Sedona Main Street Program are working to
create self-guided walking routes. This Sedonas Walk through Time will reveal
Sedonas ancient and modern geological, cultural and natural history, step by step.
WHAT: Plaques will present subjects that appeal to all ages, ranging from red rock formations and
Western movie stories to historic heroes and our javelina, hummingbird or cactus populations.
WHERE: Placement of the plaques will create walking routes to connect Sedonas shopping, gallery
and dining areas that today seem disconnected and too far to walk. Initially the focus will be on the
seemingly empty expanse between the Forest Road intersection and the Y, connecting the area
between North SR89A & SR179. Perhaps the most obvious place to start is the sloped walk along
SR 89A between Pink Jeep Plaza and the junction of SR 179. The intention is to draw pedestrians
along that open expanse with plaques of interest, using graphics and factoids to stimulate interest
incorporating technology that directs users to websites and links where they can access in-depth
information.
Next we could connect the Y with Tlaquepaque and then we may place plaques between
Tlaquepaque and Hillside, or on Ranger Road to connect Tlaquepaque and the historic Hart Store
and Forest Ranger Station. Imagine the pleasure of crossing the .2 mile SR 89A bridge over Oak
Creek on foot, savoring the creek waters, canyon landscapes and bird songs while learning about
Sedonas heritage, geology and natural history along the way.
WHY: This project will celebrate Sedonas rich heritage and natural assets in a broad, appealing
way through memorable facts and stories. People of all ages and backgrounds who immerse the
mselves in Sedona to learn about it first-hand are likely to want to return. Theyre also prone to
comprehend and preserve its spectacular environment, ecosystems and character.
We want to encourage more people to walk around Sedona, taking in fresh
