Verbs We learn lots of different Literacy skills in our English lessons. For example…
Full stops Capital letters Adjectives Verbs
We do not just spend one lesson learning a particular Literacy skill, we spend lots of lessons practising them. This way, we get really good at them. When we practise something over and over again, we call this ‘overlearning’. It helps that Literacy skill to get stuck in our brains!During the lockdown, we have already thought about verbs. We are going to do some more practise using verbs. A verb is a doing word or an action word. Look at the pictures below and read the sentence with your adult. Get ready with your highlighter. As soon as you spot the verb in the sentence, highlight it. Remember, the verbs we look at have ‘ing’ at the end of the word!

The hyenas are dribbling. The hyenas are growling. Zazu is crying.

Why not try to challenge yourself! Look at these pictures and write a simple sentence that includes a verb. Remember to highlight the verb to prove you have used it.
We have looked at many pictures of the Lion King. Let’s now prove our understanding even further by using verbs in our everyday language. Draw a picture in the box of something someone in your house is doing. If you have a pet, you could draw a picture of something they are doing. The first one has been done for you.
Mum is cooking.
Well Done, you must have worked very hard to complete all of these sentences. I wonder
though, have you remembered all your capitals and full stops! You could go back over your writing and highlight these skills.
