Email: [email protected] Dear parents, This week, we continue with the changed format of work. For June, together with some written work in English, Irish and Maths, we will send some activity based learning and some links for some online learning. This week we continue to explore narrative writing. We will begin to explore how there is always a problem and a resolution (solution) in every story. We will also discuss the beginning, middle and end of different stories. We hope that you and your child enjoy this topic. Regards Mary and Maresa SPHE & PE. Water Safety This is a topic which is important for children, especially those who live in coastal areas to explore and learn about each year. Some of the information on the given websites, especially if you come across videos, while educational, can be a little frightening for children in infants and it is important to become familiar yourself with the content and choose what you feel is suitable for your child. Your child should not work through this topic independently, they will need a parent/guardian working with them. If you would like to get some background information and do some exploring of the topic yourself this link may be of use to you before you discuss the topic with your child.

Instructions for maths

P123 You could use a page with two large empty circles drawn on it if your child finds this difficult. For the first box of sums, take out four counters. Now, put one of the four counters in the first circle on the page, how many go in the other circle? That`s right 3, so 1+3+4 , fill in the 3. Keep the four counters to do the other sums in this box and then use 5 counters for the next box.

P124 Part A Use the number line to add these sums. Remember to start with the bigger number and only to count when you move. Write the answers in the boxes.

Part B As above, start with the bigger number, use the number line and write the answer in the box under the line.

P125 Part A Add three numbers using the number line. If you want to circle the biggest number and start with that you can, but make sure you include all three numbers. Only count when you move. Write the answers in the boxes.

Part B Use the number line above to add the sum on each part of the picture, then check which colour to use for the total. Colour the picture.

P94 In each picture, the green number is the total and the red numbers add up to give that total. Use ten frames or a page with two large circles as above to help.
