English WALT- create atmosphere.

Today, we will describe the street party in the picture from yesterday. You will need to create atmosphere. How do we do that? Read the two descriptions below:

• Slamming the door behind her, Mrs Lines stomped into the classroom. Outside the window, lightning flashed wildly and the thunder roared in anger. “Homework out, NOW!” she screeched brutally.

• Closing the door gently, Mrs Lines glided into the room. Outside the window the sun shone, gilding the treetops with a golden hue and birds twittered happily. ‘Have you got your homework, children?” she asked calmly.

The difference between these two pieces comes from the verbs and adverbs. As an author, you will need to pick out ways to make people sound joyous. You can also see that the weather impacts mood greatly and so you will need to consider this.

Yesterday, we all enjoyed watching the virtual May procession for Mary. Today, we will think about why we do this. As Catholics, we do not worship her, but honour her.

Look at the powerpoint from the blog.

Then make your own alter for Mary in your home or garden. You could use a statue you already have, or draw a picture. Spend some time there and pray the rosary. Reflect on her life and what she means to you. Then write your own prayer to Mary.

Music This Friday, the nation will take part in a televised sing along of Dame Vera Lynn’s

‘We’ll meet again’. The sing along is scheduled to take place on Friday 8th May

just after 9pm following the Queen’s special address to the nation, which will be

shown on BBC One.

The song will be led by Dame Vera Lynn, 103, from a window at her home in

Sussex.

The song found its fame during the Second World War, as it resonated with

soldiers who had to leave their families and fight for Britain. Vera Lynn was

known as the ‘forces sweetheart’ due to her beautiful ballads and overseas tours

to improve soldier morale.
