Optional tasks – please try to do some of these each week

This week’s focus is World War 2

Knowledge of the World Creative Physical Watch the video of World War II Animated Map at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPFRuecBKI8. It’s probably best to watch with an adult so that they can talk it through with you. It shows the progress of the Nazi Party (and the Axis forces) as they invaded countries across Europe throughout WW2, and then slowly how the Allied Forces fought back. No task, just watch!

Research to find out at least 12 countries involved in WW2 – what are their flags and capital cities?

Find out the difference between an Anderson and a Morrison shelter which were used during air raids. Where would you make your Morrison shelter in your home? Take a photograph!

Create and make a game (board game or card game) on the theme of WW2 or with a Maths theme – make a suitable for Y6 pupils (so not too easy in other words!)

Look at the pictures I have put on the next page. These are images half of some famous faces from WW2 (Churchill, Hitler, Anne Frank and Doris Day). A while ago, you had a photograph of half of your own face and you had to draw the other side – can you do the same with these faces? You’ll probably have to print them out (if that’s possible).

Lots of songs from WW1 were sung by the military as they marched or to entertain themselves in the evenings during WW2. Can you find these songs: It’s a long way to Tipperary, Pack up your troubles, K-K-Katy, Keep the home fires burning? Listen to them and think about the lyrics.

Set yourself a challenge for the week e.g. could you go for a particular length walk/run/bike ride each day, could you set up a circuit in your garden which you could complete daily, if you have a basketball/netball net or football goal, could you challenge yourself to 50 shots a day and see how many you get? (You’ll need a goalie for the football one or it’s too easy!)? Let me know what you decided to do, maybe send me some photos.
