Year 6 Topic: Inheritance and Evolution This grid provides a variety of activities covering a range of subjects based around our topic of Evolution. Some activities are more open-ended and creative, others are more structured and may have accompanying documents – these are highlighted in red and can be found using the links on the webpage. Art: Can two different species have a baby? Sometimes two different species can have an offspring – called a hybrid. EG: The baby of a lion and a tiger is called a Liger! Create a hybrid of your own. Draw it, paint it, make it out of card – the choice is yours. Be as creative as you can. English: Create a fact file describing your Hybrid. What does he eat? Where does it live? What climate does it prefer? Why not try channelling your inner David Attenborough and record your very own video describing it. Science: Adaptation is the name given to the process in which animals adapt to survive in their environment. Carl Linnaeus designed this idea in the 1700s. Read through Classification PowerPoint attached and complete the activity at the end. Have a go at classifying other items- they don’t all have to be living either! We Art Mary Anning is a famous name associated with the discovery of fossils. She grew up in Lyme Regis and made it her life’s work to track down as many as she could. Artists today, enjoy drawing and recreating fossils – Try some for yourself. There are some images attached BELOW to help you with this. If you don’t have any junk modelling etc lying around – why not just develop you drawing or create a PowerPoint-annotating exactly what’s inside the park.Or alternatively, create a huge Art attack dinosaur out of anything you have lying around!Here is a photo of my neighbours – who gave me the inspiration.

Art :It’s all in the name.Where did your name come from? How was it decided upon? Use this PowerPoint to design your own alphabet and then draw your own graffiti name! Work through the Alphabet PowerPoint attached to get you started. Here’s my one – but you guys can do so much better.

DT:Build a bird feeder and then list the types of birds that come and use it. Continue with your bird spotting from last week’s Science and maybe even start looking out for other species that appear in your garden.
