UK-Based Excursions1 CURRENT CEC position

All excursions, including day trips and residential events, should be cancelled.

[see dates below – phased approach]

Additional information:

EXCEPTION: Curricular swimming accessed via walking or coach is permitted. Not permitted if travelling via public transport. If you have any further questions, please contact Mel Coutts [email protected] .

For UK residential visits currently away and returning by Friday 20 March, we advise groups to proceed with existing return dates. Head Teachers and Excursions Coordinators should liaise with the Group Leader to check this and identify any issues or concerns. An update letter should be sent to

parents (checked by Noel Miller). [contact [email protected] FAO Andrew Bradshaw with any specific concerns or questions]

A phased approach (we will be constantly reviewing the dates below):

All excursions up to 30 June 2020 must be cancelled or postponed until after this date. In the first instance, we advise liaising with your tour operator/travel provider to postpone your trip to after 31 August.

For UK residential excursions planned from 30 June to 31 August; contact [email protected] for advice. Do not make any bookings or payments for excursions in these dates.

For UK excursions after 31 August you may currently proceed subject to normal approvals. As part of your planning, you should ensure that insurance, including pre-trip cancellation (which must provide cover for cancellation), is in place for residentials before any payments are made or any other potential financial liability is incurred. CEC insurance is the normal/default option for this. Your planning should include a contingency plan should the trip be unable to go ahead.

Use the resource in Line 7 to support postponements and cancellations.

This position is being reviewed daily and in accordance with guidance from relevant agencies. Any change to this Council advice will be communicated to Head Teachers, Business Managers and Excursions Coordinators.

Overseas Excursions10 CURRENT CEC

position statements:

Current Council advice is aligned with UK and Scottish Governments’ guidance:

All overseas trips should not go ahead until further notice.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-advises-schools-and-colleges-to-cancel-overseas-trips

All overseas trips up to 30 June 2020 must be cancelled or postponed until after this date. In the first instance, we advise liaising with your tour operator/travel provider to postpone your trip to after 30 September.

For overseas trips planned from 30 June to 30 September; contact [email protected] for advice. Do not make any overseas bookings or payments for excursions in these dates.

For overseas trips after 30 September you may proceed subject to normal approvals. As part of your planning, you should ensure that insurance, including pre-trip cancellation (which must provide cover for cancellation due to FCO advice) is in place before any payments are made or any other potential financial liability is incurred. CEC insurance is the preferred option for this. Your planning should include a contingency plan should the trip be unable to go ahead (the resource tool below has been designed to assist with this).

This position is being reviewed daily and in accordance with guidance from relevant agencies. Any change to this Council advice will be communicated to Head Teachers, Business Managers and Excursions Coordinators.

11 Key points Communications to parents must be approved via Michelle McMillan [email protected] and / or Noel Miller [email protected] (except for the pre-approved template letter below).

All trips up to 30 June 2020 must be cancelled or postponed.Postponement (after 30 September) is the recommended first option where applicable – liaise with your travel provider / tour operator.

Where cancellation is required, for non-refundable costs already incurred you should contact your insurer regarding making a claim for these. Excursions with CEC insurance are eligible to submit a claim for all non-refundable costs.

Please advise [email protected] if you have purchased non-CEC Travel and Personal Accident Insurance and are experiencing issues with insurer.
