Day 1Introduce recognising coins, if you have these coins at home, please use the real thing so that children have the experience of a real coin but if not there is a sheet below with coins you can cut out. Discuss these coins with your child – what colour are they, what size are they, sort them into colour and then size. Which is the biggest? Which is the smallest? Why are these bronze, these silver and these silver and gold? Explain that this represents the value of the coin. What do you think you would be able to buy with this amount?

Count the pennies in the piggy bank https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-n-1278-how-much-money-is-in-my-piggy-bank-powerpoint-quiz
Explain that we can count these in ones because they are 1p so represent ones. But when we count other coins we need to count their value so if we count 5p and 5p we need to count in 5s. Or sometimes we may have a variety of coins which we need to add together just like we would with numbers so we need to look carefully at what each coin represents as a number.See if you can add these coins together to find the correct amount.https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-n-1333-eyfs-money-matching-powerpoint-activity-up-to-10p
