Year 5 BH Curriculum Home Learning Grid (Y5)-Japan Please write the date and WALT in your book and complete each day. There are links to games/videos that might support both parents and children. Some of these activities may need adult support however other tasks can be completed independently. Please make a comment on how much your child was supported in each activity. Resources are found below the grid. Monday 11 th May-Geography WALT: understand why Japan is more prone to natural disasters than the UK. Activity: Watch the clip to recap explaining about tectonic plates https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBr-D1cFmEs . Now look at the two pages of Monday’s resources and you will see the tectonic plates on the world map and then the world map with countries identified. Discuss with someone at home why you think Japan has more natural disasters than the UK. Then using this map, write down 10 other countries, which are as likely to be affected by natural disasters as Japan, and 10 countries which are less likely to be affected by natural disasters. Challenge: From the 10 countries you name, can you give a city in that country that is the most at risk? Activity: Today and Wednesday you will be becoming a news presenter. Today you will need to gather research about one of the natural disasters that have occurred in Japan and then plan your news report. To help you with your plan, there is a template in the resources to make it easier. If you have an iPhone, you should be able to do your video and edit it on iMovie but if not then just use the camera to record. Today’s lesson requires some drama skills which I know you all have! Link to a website to support you in this area of learning: Thursday 14 th May- Geography WALT: understand the tourist attractions, which make Japan such a popular destination to visit. Activity: Imagine you are travelling to Japan, research and then write down a range of activities/places you can visit. One thing I would love to do is complete a real life Mario Kart in Tokyo (watch the link below as it is amazing) so that would be on my list.
