Who are Global’s Make Some Noise?

Global’s Make Some Noise supports lots of small charities across the UK.

What is a charity? [Ask your pupils first for suggestions]

A charity is an organisation set up to raise money and support people in need of help.

Global’s Make Some Noise helps small charities by working with some of the UK’s best-loved radio stations and their listeners to help raise money and SHOUT about many small charities.

Who started Global’s Make Some Noise?

The charity was started by Global which is a media and entertainment group. Global runs several radio stations including Capital, Heart, LBC and Classic FM and Global’s Make Some Noise is the official charity of all the stations.

How long has it been going for?

Global’s Make Some Noise was formed in 2014. Before that each radio station had their own charity (for example Capital had Help a Capital Child and Classic FM had The Classic FM Foundation) but they have all been brought together to make one bigger charity: Global’s Make Some Noise!

How does a small charity work? Global’s Make Some Noise works with small charities that support

disadvantaged children. [Define disadvantaged as something that causes difficulty: something that makes someone less likely to succeed than others]

Small charities work with volunteers who give up their time to help others, and help to raise money to buy useful things like hospital equipment, and pay for fun days out for children and their families who have been through a tough time.

Charities need lots of people to know about their charity to make sure they can raise enough money to help these children.

For small charities, it can be really difficult to get their message heard

Theme: Raising Awareness

There are lots of ways to spread the word about people who need our help. This is important because the more people who hear about the charities, the more support they are likely to get.

Early Years: Individual Activity 5 – Get Colourful

Resources: Noisy colouring sheets Schools Fundraising Pack http://www.makesomenoise.com/schools/

Time:5 minutes

Colour in these posters with our mascot Noisy. Can you guess what he’s doing to help raise money for Make Some Noise Day?

Answers: Dressing Loud for Make Some Noise Day, putting on a show and baking cakes for a Bake Some Noise cake sale!

[Ask your pupils to discuss how they would like to fundraise – try using the Fundraising Pack challenges as inspiration]

What should our school do to help raise money for Make Some Noise Day in October?

PRIMARYLESSON PLAN

Page 4:   · Web viewPRIMARY. LESSON PLAN. Summary: Introduce your pupils to the work of small charities, explain how Global’s Make Some Noise helps these small charities and kickstart

[Read out this story slowly – ask your class to close their eyes and concentrate!]

Now close your eyes and listen to this story:

Our mascot Noisy is baking a cake! He heads to the kitchen to start baking. Noisy puts on a big white chef’s hat. Noisy puts in chocolate, sugar, and oranges into the cake mix. He adds a special food colouring that turns the cake pink! He adds candles to the cake. Voila!

[Ask your pupils to write down the answers to these questions on the back of their wordsearch paper]

1. What colour was Noisy’s cake? 2. What did Noisy put on his head in the kitchen?3. What ingredients were in the cake?

[Ask your pupils]

How many facts did you remember? Was it easier to concentrate when you were only listening to the story?

[Round up the activity]

See how it’s easier to remember things when you listen to a story carefully?

Sharing stories and making some noise on the radio grabs the audience’s attention and helps people to remember stories about our small charities. Hearing these stories might make them want to help our small charities and raise money.

Seniors: Activity 6 – Radio Show

Resources: Charity case studies (Find them on www.makesomenoise.com/2017-charities)Time: 20 minutes

Let’s pretend that we’re on the radio! Get into small groups and put on a radio show which will tell the story of a small charity.

Some of you will play the radio presenters asking questions, and some of you will play the small charity telling your story.

Research task: Ask your pupils to talk about what they’re passionate about, and set a Google task to find out about local small charities in their own area. These charities could even be a Global’s Make Some Noise charity one day!

Ready to go: If you’re short on time, you can use one of this year’s small charities as your example.

Theme: The power of radio & storytelling

We love hearing our favourite songs on the radio! That’s why listening to stories about our small charities on the radio can be really powerful because the audience has to listen carefully and pay attention.

Early Years: Activity 6 – Noisy Wordsearch

Resources: Wordsearch, colourful pencils Time: 5 minutes

Ask your pupils to listen carefully to this story and try filling out the Noisy wordsearch at the same time.

[Read out this story slowly]

Our mascot Noisy has a new hobby! He loves watching magicians on TV, so he’s going to perform his own magic show. Noisy practices his trick for one whole week. Noisy invites 3 celebrities to watch his magic show - Noisy’s best friends Olly Murs, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry.

Noisy performs his magic trick and shouts out “ABRACADABRA!”. Noisy pulls a purple rabbit out of his hat like magic! The audience clap, and Noisy takes a bow.

[Ask your pupils to write down the answers to these questions on the back of their wordsearch paper]

1. What colour was Noisy’s rabbit?2. How many celebrities watched Noisy’s show?3. What did Noisy say when he performed his trick?

[Give your pupils the answers: 1 – Purple, 2 – Three people, 3- Abracadabra]

[Ask your pupils to give their answers to these questions out loud]

How many facts did you remember? How easy was it to concentrate on two things at once?

To get you started…here’s some typical interview questions.

Radio presenters: Think of questions to ask the charity...

- What is your charity called?- What’s an interesting fact about your charity?- Who does the charity help?- How can people get involved and help the charity?

Charity volunteers: Think of what you’d like to tell the radio listeners about your charity – it’s your time to share your story!

To get you started…here’s some things to talk about.

- The people that the charity helps- Why the charity was started
