Nassau County’s 4th Annual PSA Contest to Mark Red Ribbon Week

                (October 23-31, 2016)

In acknowledgement of the National Red Ribbon Week campaign - and its aim to advocate and educate youth to create drug-free communities, I invite and encourage all High School and College students to produce a 30 second Public Service Announcement on the danger of drugs – particularly heroin and prescription pills - and what can be done to address this disease of addiction. The video entries should promote a positive lifesaving message of hope – from student to student.

This year's Red Ribbon Week theme is "Yolo (You Only Live Once). Be Drug Free."

Contest submissions can include how: “experimenting” with drugs often leads to physical and mental dependence; shame and embarrassment deter youth from seeking help for their drug and/or mental health issues; untreated depression or other mental health issues may lead to self-medication and substance abuse; and how Substance Use Disorder is a disease and therefore a public health issue.

Videos should provide links to resources available for help; including local resources such as 227-TALK. Make sure the message is pro-active and provides hope, help and positive alternatives to drug misuse and abuse that either an individual or school may provide.

First, Second and Third Prizes will be awarded for the winning entries in both the high school and college level divisions.
