Name:______________________________ Date:__________ Period:______ World War II Scrapbook Context: Over the next few days, you are going to be creating an imaginary (digital) scrapbook that provides the reader (me) with the story of a fictional character’s experience during World War II. Procedure: Your first task is to choose an identity for your fictional character to whom this scrapbook belongs. Possible choices include: o A soldier who fought in the European theater AND Pacific theater American, British, Soviet o Someone on the Homefront A child/teenager who does their part for the war effort A woman who does her part for the war effort including taking on a job that was a mans before the war Really flesh out your character as much as possible – give him/her a name, age, background, beliefs, traits, etc. Planning your ideas about your character will make your scrapbook more interesting, original and authentic! Learn about your character as much as possible. READ! Use your textbook (Chapter 19,) online resources on my website, John Green crash course videos, History channel, Smithsonian Institute, etc. Try to become an expert on whatever aspect of WWII will be reflected in your scrapbook

World War II Scrapbook

Context:Over the next few days, you are going to be creating an imaginary (digital) scrapbook that provides the reader (me) with the story of a fictional character’s experience during World War II.

Procedure: Your first task is to choose an identity for your fictional character to whom this

scrapbook belongs. Possible choices include:o A soldier who fought in the European theater AND Pacific theater

American, British, Sovieto Someone on the Homefront

A child/teenager who does their part for the war effort A woman who does her part for the war effort including taking on a job

that was a mans before the war Really flesh out your character as much as possible – give him/her a name, age,

background, beliefs, traits, etc. Planning your ideas about your character will make your scrapbook more interesting, original and authentic!

Learn about your character as much as possible. READ! Use your textbook (Chapter 19,) online resources on my website, John Green crash course videos, History channel, Smithsonian Institute, etc. Try to become an expert on whatever aspect of WWII will be reflected in your scrapbook

Decide on a medium for you scrapbook – can be through google slides, PPT, a video, Microsoft Word, etc.

Create, revise, edit and be detailed before submitting it. Make sure that you are chunking work out and checking in with me everyday!

Requirements: Each scrapbook must include all of the following elements:

1) INDIVIDUALLY There are 10 required topics (they are in bold down at the bottom) and there are lots of optional topics too. Get the 10 required done first then, choose 5 additional topics of interest to you (total of 15)

1 image per topic minimum Description in you scrapbook from a first-hand account as to WHY is it important

to World War II o If you’re taking the perspective of soldier, how do the events on the

Homefront impact you? Did you fight in the battles?o If you’re taking the perspective of someone on the Homefront, how do the

battles effect you? What information are YOU given from the news or from your soldier overseas? How are you personally participating in the Homefront activities (i.e. purchasing war bonds, planting a victory garden, etc.)

3) Personal statement (must be the first “page) Write a paragraph or more (must-be in a first-person point-of-view) that introduces and describes the character in your scrapbook. The paragraph should provide some insight into the character’s overall experiences during the war as well as a sense of the setting (i.e. if you’re a soldier, where primarily are you fighting? What branch of the military? What battles were you a part of? If you’re on Homefront, what are you doing for your part of the war effort? Where is your father/brother/spouse and what news do you hear? How do you cope with not hearing any news from the frontlines?)

4) Diary entry/entries You must choose a significant moment during your character’s wartime experiences and write a detailed diary entry/entries about this event from his/her perspective. This should be a minimum of one full page and should reflect your deep understanding of the way life looked for your character. Entry/entries must be dated!

5) Letter Choose a different significant moment in your character’s wartime experience and write a detailed letter from his or her perspective – if you’re a soldier, write to your spouse or parents/siblings back home; if you’re on the Homefront, write a letter to your solider (spouse/father/brother.) This should be a minimum of one full page and should reflect your deep understanding of the way life looked for your character. Letter must be dated!

6) Map Your scrapbook must have at least one map that connect to your topic and character – battlefield map, town you live in, etc.

7) Images/pictures Your scrapbook must have at least 15 visual elements NOT including the map (so, 16 total including the map.) These may include photographs, propaganda posters, political cartoons, posters, graphs, etc.

Topics: The following topics that are bolded MUST be covered. You have 5 ADDITIONAL ones that you can cover from the list below:
