1. The two different type of waves are transverse and longitudinal. 2. Transverse waves: The oscillation of the wave is perpendicular (at a right angle) to

the direction of energy transfer. 3. Longitudinal waves: The oscillation of the wave is parallel to the direction of energy

In this investigation you are going to connect amicrophone to an oscilloscope and use this to measurethe frequency of a sound.

Method

1. Connect the microphone to the oscilloscope 2. Connect the signal generator to a loudspeaker3. Set the loudspeaker to emit a constant frequency.4. You must keep your microphone pointing towards your loudspeaker. 5. Note down the time base you are using!6. Measure the time period of your sound wave.7. Calculate the frequency of your wave. 8.
