Mission of First Baptist Church of Dallas

The mission of First Baptist Church of Dallas is to transform the world with God’s Word one life at a time.

Mission of First Dallas Students

Our mission in First Dallas Students, in keeping with the mission of First Baptist Dallas, is to encourage every student to love God through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

We want to equip our students with sound, biblical doctrine to encourage their walk with Jesus Christ and reach those who do not know Him.

Simply stated, the mission of First Dallas Students is to help teenagers “Love God and Love Others.”

Vision of First Dallas Students

The Great Commandments in Matthew 22:37-39 tell us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is

like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son

and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

your student. For example: Beach Week 2018’s registration link is www.firstdallas.org/beachweek

2. NEXT Class: NEXT is a class for new believers or students who are ready to take the next step in their

relationship with the Lord. NEXT will take place before small groups on Sunday mornings at 8:30am. Students will learn spiritual disciplines such as bible study, prayer, worship, and service. They will also learn the biblical meaning of baptism, the Lord’s Supper, church

membership, and the importance and role of the church.

3. Bible Studies Bible studies this year will take place from 5:30-6:30pm on Wednesdays before The

Avenue beginning Wednesday, August 30th. We recognize that many students grow deeper with a combination of a large group and a

small group environment. As we focus on prayer this Fall we would love your student to be involved in Draw The

Circle bible studies!

The Eight Checkpoints of First Dallas StudentsThe eight checkpoints exist as a guide to direct our teaching series each year.

1. Evangelism: First Dallas Students exists to encourage teenagers to know God and make Him known. This checkpoint includes sermon series like Lost & Found or The Rush to help teenagers carry out the Great Commission in their spheres of influence. We believe it is important to strategically place each series within the specific season of our student ministry. Therefore, evangelism series are typically the month before an event like Fall Rush where First Dallas Students are challenged to introduce their un-churched friends to Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:19-20).

2. Relationships: Relationships impact every aspect of a teenager’s life. We are not just talking about dating relationships, but relationships with friends, siblings, and even parents. One of the greatest skills one can devleop is the ability to build healthy relationships with others. This checkpoint exists to help teenagers build and recognize healthy relationships according to Scripture (Phil. 2:2-4).

3. Spiritual Life: Spiritual Life ranges from series like Life Apps, a series on the fruit of the Spirit, and Meant to Live, a series challenging students to find God’s plan and purpose for their lives. It is meant to help teenagers discover in God’s Word how to develop spiritual disciplines to live a godly life on a daily basis (Matt. 5:48).

4. Worldviews: In a world that has numerous religions and conflicting theories about “how it all began,” this checkpoint is meant to tackle many mainstream beliefs with a biblical perspective to help teenagers “own” their faith. For example, a series entitled Lenses: Religions of the World, equips teenagers with the knowledge and tools needed to share their faith with those of the Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, Islam, and Judaist belief systems.

5. Bible: Each year First Dallas Students takes a character of the Bible or goes through a book of the bible, such as Hebrews, to provide practical insight for teenagers. We believe that specific figures and books in the Bible apply directly to what teenagers encounter on a regular basis. For example, Ruined is a series that looks at figures such as Paul and Rahab and how God completely ruined their plans and transformed them to look like His Son.

6. Topical: Topical exists to provide biblical answers for teenagers struggling with temptation in Real Talk or Limitless, understanding theological confusion in Hollywood in At The Movies, and simply to provide solutions to tough questions asked by our students in Frustrated?. These series provide a fun and practical way to communicate biblical truth on hot topics to teenagers.

7. Jesus: Teaching series such as The Good Life (Sermon on the Mount) and Behind the Scene (Christmas) provide insight into the teaching and earthly life of Jesus Christ. As the greatest man and teacher that ever lived, Jesus is the standard by which we should live our lives (Rom. 8:29).

8. Church: This checkpoint ensures that First Dallas Students understand the purpose the church serves and what the lives of those in the church should look like. Series such as Members Only: When Church Goes Bad and Why Church? serve as attention grabbers as teenagers learn the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19, 20), the Greatest Commandment (Matt. 22:37-39), and the importance of being a part of the church (Heb. 10:25).

First Dallas Students Teaching Plan 2017-18

AUGUST 20th – OCTOBER 1st

SERIES: Pray Big Things (Spiritual Life & Evangelism): If God can do more than we can imagine and if He really is the God of the impossible then shouldn’t our prayers be bigger? “The greatest tragedy in life is the prayers that go unanswered simply because they go unasked.” Pray Big Things is all about asking God for bigger things in our lives because He loves it when His children desire a big story that reveals His glory.OCTOBER 8th – NOVEMBER 12th SERIES: Do Hard Things: The Book of James (Bible): It’s been said, “It’s not about how many times we go through the Bible. It’s about how many times the Bible goes through us.” Oftentimes the hardest thing we do as Christians is consistently immersing ourselves in the Bible. The second hardest thing to do is applying what we read. The book of James teaches us how to do both. Are you ready to “do hard things” for the Lord?NOVEMBER 19th – DECEMBER 17th SERIES: Treat Yo’ Self (Spiritual Life & Church): School, work, or just life keeping you crazy busy? Does “peace” seem to be nonexistent in your vocabulary these days? We all get out of the habit of treating ourselves to the peace God wants us to experience on a daily basis. Treat Yo’ Self is all about how to get back to the basics of spending that quality time with God. Treating ourselves with the peace of God can be a habit!JANUARY 7th – FEBRUARY 25th SERIES: Playlist (Topical): John Lennon once said, “I think the music reflects the state that the society is in.” This statement may not always be true but the truth is we’re influenced by the music we listen to. Playlist looks at six popular songs on the radio and counters them Biblical truth, practical ways to guard our hearts, and provides positive, alternative choices.MARCH 4th – APRIL 29th SERIES: FAM (Relationships): What is the secret to making and keeping friends? What am I supposed to look for in a husband or wife? Why is it that important to have a healthy relationship with my family? “FAM” answers all of those questions and more as we discover how to maintain solid and biblical relationships with those around us. MAY 6th – JUNE 24th SERIES: Beach Week 2018! (Jesus): Was Jesus just a good teacher? Was He merely a prophet? What did He really mean when He made all of those “I Am” claims in the book of John? Let’s get ready for Beach Week 2018 by discovering Jesus’ true identity! JULY 8th – AUGUST 12th SERIES: That May Be True For You… (Worldviews): If there are so many religions in the world with their own path of getting to heaven then all of them can’t be right. By definition, there can only be one true way to get to heaven, which makes the rest of the “paths” false. In “That May Be True For You,” we’ll look at a different world religion each week to discover how we can build a bridge for their followers to accept the truth found in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

Beach Week 2018 SpeakerEd Newton: The only child of two deaf parents, Ed was the voice in the silence for his parents Ron and Libby Newton. Through difficult circumstances and major hardships Ed was radically saved in high school. It was through the spoken word of others and the written Word of God that clarified a call to ministry as a senior in high school. God began to show forth His sovereign will in leading Ed to Clearwater Christian College to gain a Bible education, while affording the opportunity to play college basketball for four years. Ed continued his education journey by receiving a Master in Religious Education from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity from Trinity Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry in Pulpit Communication and Expository Preaching from Trinity Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Stephanie (college sweetheart), and their four children London, Liv, Lola and Lawson reside in San Antonio, TX where Ed serves as the Lead Pastor at Community Bible Church.
