When a solvent drop is deposited on a polymer surface many phenomena happen at the same time at the molecular scale. The solvent diffuses in the polymer and makes the surface swelling, in the meantime the solvent flows towards the three-phase contact line transporting polymer along and forming a rim. After the solvent is fully evaporated a crater structure is left, which could be used to micro-/nanostructure polymer surfaces.
