Convergence – Task One

Media Convergence: Media convergence is the merging of mass communication outlets – print, television, radio, the Internet along with portable and interactive technologies through various digital media platforms. Media convergence describes the collaboration between, or fusion of, at least two types of media in mutually beneficial projects. It usually involves a process that decouples content from media, allowing the same story or entertainment to exist in multiple forms.

Film 1 – Doctor Strange

The first website I have decided to analyse is the website for the most recent film of the Marvel franchise, Doctor Strange. The films description is; a former neurosurgeon embarks on a journey of healing only to be drawn into the world of the mystic arts.

The Film Doctor Strange is a part of one of the biggest movie franchises there has ever been, (the Marvel shared universe), which already gives the film a huge advantage

because fans of the previous superhero films will automatically want to see this film. The film is about a very popular Marvel character from the comic books created by Stan Lee, and comic book superheroes and villains tend to have specific origin stories, and the character Doctor Strange has a classic/famous origin story that is shown to the audience by the film. The website for the film used to convergence to interest the audience about the story of the main character, it includes a feature

that allows the audience to follow the character’s story through different web pages. The different web pages include

different clips from the film and a new caption in a bold text, with a button that takes the audience to the next page.

Film 2 – Arrival

The second website I have decided to analysis is the website for the film Arrival, the films description is; when twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world, linguistics professor Louise Banks is tasked with interpreting the language of the apparent alien visitors.

The film Arrival is a stand-alone film that is not a part of an already existing franchise. The film has some very famous actors/actresses (including Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner) in it, and they can be used to promote the film as fans of those actors will see them promoting the film and want to go and see it. The highest paid actors of the film are displayed on the website multiple times.
