Generally, there is not an accurate definition of light frame building and heavy frame building. We usually judge the framing of building by the overall feeling. The one with few and heavy vertical supports such as timber framing, pole building framing and steel framing is usually called heavy framed building while the one with many and smaller vertical supports is called light framed building such as balloon, platform and light steel framing. But there are also some buildings which show multiple characters at the m\same time and form the contrast between light and heavy frame construction itself.

What type of framing the building is depends on the multiple construction materials the building chose, the size of material itself, the space arrangement, the location of building, the light effect in the space, the color of building, the way the structure part joined together and the building style it chose. Also, the usage of new advanced material and high technology can give the material different texture beyond people’s tradition impression of some tradition material, such like reinforced concrete and Church of Light. The multiple effects are combined to produce a different framed building.
