Weekly Planner Week commencing: Monday 18 th May 2020 Class: Year 5 Squirrels and Otters Languages, Literacy and Communication Writing Task 1 – This week you will be using the picture ‘The Magic Tree’ from 'Pobble 365’ as a stimulus for your written work. The task is to continue the story, but before you do, think about the answers to these questions - What is so different about this tree? What has happened to the other trees around it? Be creative as you can and try to include lots of adjectives to describe the setting, key feelings and emotions. https://www.pobble365.com/the-magic-tree Here are some tasks you can try from the activity: This tree was different to the other trees. It contained magic. It contained hope… Can you continue the story? Imagine you have just walked through the open portal and into the world inside the tree. Draw/describe what you can see. Other Activities to try: Can you improve the 'Sick Sentence,’ by adding extra detail? Sentence challenge! - A preposition is a word that shows the relationship between one thing and another. It may tell you where a thing is in relation to something else. E.g. The green, shining door appeared inside the tree. It may tell you when something is in relation to another event. E.g. The portal would not close until the electrical storm had ended. Can you find any prepositions in your writing? Can you write 3 sentences that contain prepositions? Writing Task 2 Read the poem, ‘I am a writer’. Read it in your head first and then try reading it out loud. What rhythms and patterns can you hear when you read it aloud? Choose your favourite three images from the poem. Why do you like these images in particular? Reflect on the poem. Read the Reflection Prompts and think about your answers for each. Write a reflection on the poem, by writing some of your answers as sentences. Prepare a performance - Watch the poet Joseph Coelho talk about how to perform a poem. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1-ks2- Gowerton Primary School
