From the Pastor October 11, 201528th Sunday in

Ordinary Time - B To enhance Pope Francis’ theme of God’s gift of Matrimony we prayerfully ponder the Roman Missal’s 3 Nuptial Blessings which, for the most part, speak for themselves; they are

long, so I’m just adding footnote comments after them. Each has a parenthetical section omitted for those past childbearing age; two have parts omitted outside of Mass, when Holy Communion is not offered. They all offer a beautiful biblical viewpoint of Matrimony. Pray them for all husbands and wives and, if applicable, even for yourself and your spouse!

Nuptial Blessing - IILet us pray to the Lord for this bride and

groom, who come to the altar [1] as they begin their married life, that

(partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ) they may always be bound together

by love for one another.Holy Father, who formed man in your

own image, male and female you created them,

so that as husband and wife, united in body and heart,

they might fulfill their calling in the world; [2]

O God, who, to reveal the great design you formed in your love, willed that the love of spouses for each other should

foreshadow the covenant you graciously made

with your people, so that, by fulfillment of the sacramental sign, the mystical marriage of Christ with his

Churchmight become manifest in the union of husband and wife among your faithful;

[3]Graciously stretch out your right hand over these your servants (N. and N.), we

pray, and pour into their hearts the power of the Holy Spirit.

Grant, O Lord, that, as they enter upon this sacramental union, they may share with one another the gifts of your love

and, by being for each other a sign of your presence,

become one heart and one mind. [4]May they also sustain, O Lord, by their

deedsthe home they are forming (and prepare their children to become members of your heavenly household by raising them in the

way of the Gospel). Graciously crown with your blessings your daughter N., so that, by being a good wife (and mother), she may bring warmth to her home with a love that is

pure and adorn it with welcoming graciousness.

Bestow a heavenly blessing also, O Lord, on N., your servant, that he may

be a worthy, good and faithful husband (and a provident father).

Grant, holy Father, that, desiring to approach your table as a couple joined in Marriage in your presence, they may one day have the joy of taking part in

your great banquet in heaven. [5]Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

[1] THE ALTAR: THE PLACE OF SACRIFICE. There are many beautiful places for a wedding, but for Christians, the most sacred place is where sacrifice is offered. To show we are sacrificing our life to the Lord and His Church, Priests prostrate before an Altar at Ordination; the documents that appoint us a Pastor are placed on the Altar to be signed; and above all, we sacramentally offer the Body and Blood of Christ to the Father on the Altar. What better place for a man and woman to offer themselves to each other - and to the Lord - than the Altar? [2] GOD CALLS US TO MARRIAGE. Like the other Nuptial Blessings, this one affirms it is God who calls a particular man and woman to ‘join forces’ with Him to advance God’s gift of creation. [3] A LIVING SACRAMENT OF DIVINE LOVE. In the love of husband and wife God reveals a bit of Himself. For God is a Trinity of Love: Father, Son and Spirit, untied in love, in purpose and in respect. Christian Matrimony is also a triune form of love: husband, wife and God, made one in Christ. When they fulfill their ‘high destiny’ a merely

Page 4: easeton.neteaseton.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/B-October-11-2…  · Web viewChildren’s Liturgy of the Word. ... 145 Plainfield Ave. Metuchen, NJ 08840. 732-549-7600. ... call

mortal man and woman reflect divine love! God’s plan is truly awesome! [4] MATRIMONY: A CONSECRATED LOVE. By calling down the Holy Spirit upon the newlyweds, they are ‘consecrated’ or ‘set apart’ to literally BE sacramental signs of God’s Love. [5] EVERYDAY LIFE BECOMES AN EPIPHANY. By asking the Lord to bless those united in marriage, their offspring [if God wills them to be parents] and all they do, the Church attests that through their ordinary, day-to-day life, the family manifests or shows forth God’s presence!

This Weekend’s ReadingsTwenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary TimeFirst Reading: Wisdom 7:7-11 This poem discusses how the spirit of wisdom is far more beautiful than any riches could be. All gold is no more than sand when compared to the importance of wisdom, which often leads people to the other good things in life.Second Reading: Hebrews 4:12-13God’s perception of people is called “sharper than any two-edged sword.” God is able to know the thoughts and feelings of all his people. We can hide nothing from him, and will need to account for all he has seen in us.Gospel: Mark 10:17-30A man asks Jesus how he can share in everlasting life. Jesus tells him to sell his possessions and travel with them. The man refuses and Jesus tells his disciples how difficult it is for a rich person to enter heaven if they are too concerned with their possessions. The disciples remind Jesus that they gave up everything for him, but he assures them they will be rewarded with everlasting life.

Religious Formation News

October ~ Month of the Rosary

Love Is Our Mission

As part of our goal to support the Church's catechetical mission! The wonderful reality about the Church is that in her, we are members of the “Family of families.” Our earthly families are embraced by a truly extended family that is eternal. Through our membership in the Church and the Communion of Saints, our lives and their significance do not fade away like unrecognizable faces in a yearbook, but are destined to shine forever in the heavenly kingdom with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Church is our Mother, a source of life. There is perhaps no other bond that matches that of a mother and child as to the depth of love and devotion. Through her role as the parent, she opens her arms to embrace us in good times and bad. She never abandons us, no matter how far we may go astray. She is the vehicle of our sanctification in Baptism. It is through the Sacraments that she nurtures our faith and keeps it vibrant and alive in Christ.May God continually bless you and your families. The Prophets Bible Study

Wednesdays: 9:30-11:15 am or 7:30-9:15 pm

A prophet “afflicts the comfortable and comforts the afflicted” (Abraham Heschel). In this program we are studying who the prophets are, when they spoke, who their audience was, and most importantly what they said since their message applies to all generations. Their message was one of repentance and judgment but with the hope of restoration that we see fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We see that these messages are conveyed in dramatic ways. Last week we studied the book of the prophet Hosea whom God instructed to marry a prostitute to

dramatically portray the unfaithfulness of the people in their covenant relationship with Christ. The call to us is to see how we can be unfaithful to God but how he is always calling us back to him. This week we will be studying the prophet Jonah.

RCIA: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

It’s something you’ve been thinking about for a while … perhaps now may be just the time for you to make that move, to take that next step in the journey to become Catholic! The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the way in which

adults become fully active, participating members of the Catholic Church. The RCIA is intended for: adults who are not baptized, adults who have been baptized into a

non-Catholic denomination, Catholics who have been baptized but

have never received Eucharist or Confirmation.

We extend an invitation now to “Come and see” - see how Jesus may be calling you, see what the RCIA process entails and how it can make a difference in your life! Weekly inquiry sessions are held on Sundays from 10:30 am-12noon. This is a time to ask questions to find out more about the Catholic Faith. Contact our RCIA Director, Diane Luceri, at 782-1475 X 14 or [email protected], if you’d like to find out more information or to set up an

“It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mark10:25)Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities.
