Meaningful Christmas
The world of consumerism and technology sow the seeds of indifference among the people. Ignoring indifference Christians all over world joyfully prepare to celebrate the historical birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pope Francis described this atmosphere as a culture of indifference. Such kind of celebration will never be a meaningful Christmas. Communication is important to make the relationship alive. When our hearts are full of indifference there is no possibility to have genuine relationship. When we ignore others, or do not have genuine relationship with others (the marginalized and the poor), the celebration of Christmas will be meaningless.
Christ came into the world as the
dawn to dispel the darkness and as a free gift of God the Father. His birth makes us joyful by giving liberation from the clutches of sin. The joy received through Him would multiply when we share this with others. I am very happy that many of our parishioners willingly share their blessings with others in the form of gift cards, prayers and food for the poor people. To make this Christmas more meaningful let us share our blessings with the marginalized and the poor.
Like indifference there are other elements which will be hindrance to get blessings from new born baby Jesus. They are judgmental attitude, gossip, impure thoughts, cold relationship with our friends and family members. It is our duty to

BASIC CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
We have started a new program, namely “Basic Christian Community” (BCC) in our Parish. Basic Christian Community is the life style of early Christians. Few families gather at a home and they pray and reflect over the Word of God. It will enrich our lives and provide a good opportunity to pray for others. Peter John Kreeft is a professor of philosophy at Boston College and The King’s College. He is the author of numerous books as well as a popular writer of Christian philosophy, theology and apologetics. He is originally a Calvinist, and regarded the catholic church “with the utmost suspicion” but the study of Catholic Church motioned him to get converted to be a devout catholic. He says that sacraments are the ladders by which God comes to us and we become privileged to enjoy not only His presence but also His abounding graces. Sacraments also call us to realize the need and importance of the Sacraments for us in our journey of faith.
December 17, 2017, Sunday is the “Third Sunday in Advent.” On this Sunday, the Confirmation Candidates have their sessions. The First-Year candidates will have a session on “Sacraments” and the “Sacraments of Baptism” from 1:15 PM to 2:15 Pm in the faith formation building right after the 12:00 Noon mass. The Second-Year candidates will have their session on “Beauty of Being a Witness” in the evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 Pm in the faith formation building.
All the Confirmation Candidates are required to attend any one of the weekend Masses and do the sign-up sheets kept in the vestibule.

Third Sunday In AdventFrom all this it is clear that the custom of using rose-colored vestments on Gaudete and Laetare Sundays is to be maintained whenever possible. If a parish lacks rose vestments then the usual violet is used. The names Gaudete and Laetare comes from the traditional entrance antiphon, or introit, sung at these Masses. Both terms may be broadly translated as "rejoice" or "delight" and refer to the importance of the theme of Christian joy, even in the midst of a penitential season, which is reflected in the formulas and readings of both these Masses.
Historically it appears that all sacred vestments were white until about the seventh century. Around the time of Pope Innocent III (died 1216) we had four principal colors (red, white, black and green) and three secondary colors (yellow, rose and purple). But a common criterion for the use of the various colors is not found until around 1550, when the present usage became standard.
As "Redemptionis Sacramentum," No. 121, says above, the purpose of using different colors is to express the specific character of the various mysteries. The use of the diverse colors is both pedagogical and symbolic of the various liturgical feasts and seasons.
Thus, white, the symbol of light and purity, and gold and silver are festive colors. Red expresses both the fire of the Holy Spirit and the blood of the Passion and of martyrdom. Green is the symbolic color of hope and serenity.
Violet, recalling somberness and penance, has also largely replaced black for funerals although this latter color may still be used. Rose, which has never enjoyed frequent use, serves as a reminder, by using an unusual color, that we are halfway through a penitential season.
Third Sunday in Advent Faith Formation News Calling All Angels:
Children are welcome to participate in the Christmas Pageant at the 4:00 Mass on Christmas Eve. We need lots of angels, shepherds, kings and townspeople. What a great way for our kids to learn about the miracle of the first Christmas. Rehearsals are on Saturday, December 16 at 2:00 and Friday, December 22 at 4:00 in the Main Church! December 17: Regular schedule of classes today! Special Christmas story, caroling and visit to the manger! Also, we ask that the children bring in change to donate to Horizons for Homeless Children to support the Play space here in Revere! Children helping children! What a great way to share in the joy of giving to others!

______________________________________________Prayer Tree
We are inbuilt with otherness and Christianity is all about realizing and acknowledging it in our daily lives. Christmas is a special time to be thoughtful about others and also those who are less fortunate and under privileged. This is not only about those who are financially struggling and under privileged but also about those who are socially and physically struggling and under privileged. This year, in our parish, we are starting a new tradition of doing the “Prayer Tree”. This prayer tree which we hold in the vestibule on this Sunday (December 10, 2017) has the prayer tags with various intentions for the people who are suffering and struggling with different physical and social issues. What we ask the parishioners is that to take one or two prayer tags home and pray for the intention found in the tag till Christmas Eve, and then bring the prayer tag back to the Church and put it in the basket kept in front of the manger in the Sanctuary, what a beautiful gift to “the baby Jesus”. I am sure this will not only please our Lord but also bring graces of joy to us and to people whom we pray.
