We had an Author’s Tea on Monday. The students shared their books about pumpkins. Your child brought his/her “Pumpkin” book home last week. Be sure to let your child read his/her story to you!

Make-up day for student pictures: Wednesday, 11/14!

This week is American Education Week. Visitation hours are 10 AM – 2 PM. Please help us maintain a positive teaching atmosphere in the classroom and follow the guidelines given in the letter with your child’s schedule and tickets. These were sent home on 11/2. Be sure to bring both when you visit!

The second grade will be having a Thanksgiving program on Wednesday, November 21st from 10-11 AM. Families of 2nd graders are invited to attend.

Be sure to send in your completed October calendar for Book It! The children should now be coloring in their November calendars. Reading the books in the Book Envelope count for this activity. At the end of the month sign and return the completed calendar and your child will receive a coupon good for a free personal pizza at Pizza Hut (no purchase necessary). There is a Pizza Hut in Glassboro on Rowan Blvd.

We continue to complete our daily math routines on the SMART Board. The students are using time, money, place value and practicing skip counting each day. On Fridays they earn tokens for independent completion of their assigned math jobs.

Please check your child’s backpack and “Go Home” folder each day. Remember to initial the assignment book/sheet daily!

On Fridays the children can redeem their tokens or get an additional token and save up for a better prize. This activity helps students delay gratification and make choices.

Students are bringing home their Word Books daily. Please follow the directions in the note and help your child practice his/her high frequency words each day. Be sure to return the Word Book each day.

Important Reminders to Parents Sometimes the blower in room 16

makes the room chilly. It would be helpful if your child brought in a sweatshirt or sweater to keep in the coat area.Remember to initial your child’s homework sheet or assignment book daily and to empty his/her folder.Remember to label all your child’s belongings with his/her name!

MASCOT NEWS!When Seabiscuit comes to stay with your child, please take good care of him. Remember to return Seabiscuit and his bag on Monday (or the next school day), so your child can share their adventures with the class. Help your child draw and write about their weekend adventures in the journal. In class, your child will get to read and show the illustration to the class. The class enjoys asking questions about the mascot’s visit. If you take a picture of your child and the mascot, feel free to add it to your child’s journal page.

BOOK ENVELOPES The book envelopes are going home every day. Be sure to initial each day that your read together. Your child should be reading the book(s) in the envelope and his/her library book each day. You may enter the library book title on the sheet and check it as a “Read to Me” on the sheet. On Thursdays, students select a book that was read aloud to the class. Please read that book to your child. Reading together each day is an important part of learning to read! Thank you for your help. Remember to fill in the Book It! Calendar each day! New ones will go home this week.
