Tots drive from December 8th to December
18th. Jr. Beta is encouraging students and
parents to donate new, unwrapped toys in
collection boxes positioned near the front office and academic rotunda in
the mornings. When students donate a toy, they will receive a “Pajama
Bottom Pass” to wear pajamas bottoms on December 18th. Toys for Tots
is sponsored by the United States Marine Corp Reserve to help ensure a
happy holiday season for every child. Please see our website for more
information, wbmsjrbeta.weebly.com, or ask a Jr. Beta member.
Donations Needed
Please assist us in recycling your old eyeglasses, sun-
glasses and cell phones for Georgia Lions Lighthouse
Foundation/ Operation Eye Care to help provide vision
services to uninsured Georgians and underdeveloped
nations. Our recycling box is located in the main office. We will
continue to accept these items throughout the school year.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH YOUR DONATIONS
Eyeglasses are washed and sorted by volunteers; then each pair has its
prescription read and is bagged and labeled. Various doctors volunteer-
ing overseas, missionaries, etc. put in requests. Finally glasses are sent
to developing or disaster-stricken nations to be redistributed. The more
donations we receive, the more we are able to send out.
Sunglasses are distributed to agriculture farm workers, mainly in Florida
but also nationally.
Cell phones are sold to a company that recycles some of the parts, then
refurbishes and resets them to be used for emergency calls only. The
phones are then sent to battered women’s shelters. These earnings are
used to support eye clinics we provide throughout the state.
For more information please go to www.lionslighthouse.org
LOST and FOUND
ALL items in the Lost and Found will be donated to charity on Wednes-
day December 17th. Please have your student check the Lost and Found,
located near the clinic, on a regular basis for missing items.

sences to be considered excused. Fulton County Schools’ attendance poli-

Message From PTA
Dear WBMS PTA members,
Just a quick update on what your membership dollars
are doing for your children at their school this year. The
teachers have been awarded over $9000 in mini grant
funds to be used in the classroom this year (and beyond)
to enhance your child's learning experience. Just a few
highlights include: Across the Math curriculum-WBMS
will be implementing IXL (the web's most comprehensive adaptive math
program). In Language Arts, Reading ESOL, SPED- WBMS has pur-
chased class sets of books to support the common core. In business and
computer science- 32 desk top microphones have been incorporated into
the classroom. In the Arts- power tools, batteries and sewing machines
have been provided for the technical theater. The morning broadcast was
granted a new iMac, a much needed technology update.
A student mentoring program has been funded in the amount of $8800 for
teachers to be trained in Boomerang this spring. Boomerang is built on the
belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors
from 8th grade class to be leaders. As positive role models, leaders are
mentors who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be success-
ful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate 6th grade suc-
cess. The transition to middle school is a significant event in the life of a
young person, and yet very few substantial strategies for support exist in
most middle schools. Because the move to middle school can be challeng-
ing and frightening, 6th graders often experience lowered academic
achievement and difficult social adjustments. And, because 6th graders are
often scared in the new environment of middle school, they can easily
become the subject of bullying. WBMS will not just stand by and allow
this rite of passage to happen to their 6th graders.
Your dedication to WBMS has certainly made an impact this school year
and you are greatly appreciated.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season,
Your WBMS PTA Board

designed to demystify code and show that anyone can learn the basics. To
