Synchronous Lecturing – often first thing asked about in hybrid

redesign• Non-Engaged lecture• Panopto (later)• TED, YouTube, other existing lectures• Asychronous lecture + online discussion (Jim)• Asychronous lecture + more focused synchronous lecture

Synchronous Lecturing – often first thing asked about in hybrid

redesign• Successful synchronous sessions• boisterous discussion not as practical• perhaps meet as smaller groups rather than whole class• more need to take turns• learning curve, but good life/work skill to develop

• use strategically – where benefits of being being together in time/space is beneficial• particularly nice when blending of courses draws on

differing viewpoints• Don’t forget remote audience• think of them as extension

of the room• Group presentations possible• one endpoint controls

Best Practices

• 5-10min and focused on distinct topic• No need to make overly polished (“human”)• System will create outline based on title field• There are ways to capture writing, if needed

Page 12: WebEx Conferencing Digital Humanities Fellows fall 2014.

Uses

• remedial• Non-Engaged lecture, leaving more classtime

for engagement• Material students may want/need to review• Adding additional lecture content when

syllabus does not allow (LotR example)
