    FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION

    MASS INTENTIONS FOR 2020

To schedule a Mass, please contact the Parish Of-

fice. A Mass is a sacrifice of Jesus on the cross,

brought forward in time to the present. At Mass you

could say that a “time warp” is opened in which the

sacrifice of Jesus is mystically brought forward to be

present to us. When we are present at a celebration of the Eucharist,

we are not merely turning our attention to the past. We are actually

bringing forward into the present the most pivotal moment of human

history. Masses can be offered for a number of intentions: for the

deceased, to invoke the Lord’s special graces for a friend or loved

one, for a successful surgery and recovery, or for an anniversary.

Please make sure to stop by or call the Rectory Office to schedule a

    Mass.

In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus notes that it requires moral strength to enter

the kingdom of God. It's not mere proximity to righteousness that saves.

Rubbing elbows with the righteous is not the same as being truly holy

ourselves. Unfortunately, we can have this attitude in many areas. It's easy

to see who may seem "first" in the eyes of the world. This occurs in our

workplaces and among our public figures. It can also happen in our

schools, local parishes, and the larger Church. For some of us, the tempta-

tion to have the popularity and prestige rub off on us can be fairly strong.

If only we are in the right place with the right people, surely others will

associate us with what they possess! But salvation is worked out in each

individual life. It is our task not merely to show up, but to be transformed.

And the truly transformed may not be everyone we expect. "People will

come from the east and the west and from the north and the south ... some

are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last." Some who

seem first in reputation now may be last in the kingdom of God. Others

who appear now on the furthest fringes of society - but better imitate the

lowly holiness of Jesus - will be first in his kingdom. What are your con-

cerns? Proximity and reputation? Or prayerful righteousness?

  • Thank you for your continued support and generosity to our

parish. Each of us has a responsibility to share our resources

to help our parish grow in faith. The Lord asks us that we

share not from surpluses, but that it be a sacrifice from each

    person.

    St. John’s Offertory: $3,120 | St. Mary’s Offertory: $448

    Assumption: $753 | Assumption: $498

    HAPPENINGS & ANOUNCEMENTS

Please consider helping our Coffee Hour

Coordinator Jen Baglio by volunteering to

help set up for the 8:00 Mass - or, especially

needed - people to clean up after 10:30

Mass. Also anyone gifted with a baking

talent can bring baked goods to the church the 1st

Sunday of each month. Thank you for your support.

Our next coffee hour is Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019. All

    are welcome.

This weekend, the St. Mary’s Altar flowers

are a gift from someone who wishes to re-

    main anonymous. Thank you.

SCHOOL RENTAL If you are interested in renting our school for your

own event, please call San Dee at the Rectory (941-

    3549) on Fridays from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.

    CONTRIBUTION ENVELOPES

If you are not a registered member of our parish and you are inter-

ested in receiving weekly contribution envelopes, please fill out

member registration papers. They can be found at the back of both

churches. When completed, the forms can be mailed or returned to

the Rectory, or placed in the collection basket. Thank you.

FROM THE GARDEN: Thank your for sharing your extra vegetables with

fellow parishioners last weekend. We would like to

continue this fun exchange! In the front

of church, there will be a table where

you can put your vegetables, so that

others can take them after Holy Mass.

ST. MARY’S MASS CANDLE & FLOWERS

Although we have scheduled all of the remaining Mass Inten-

tions for both 2019 and 2020 at St. Mary’s, you may still offer

a Sanctuary Candle or flowers for the altar there. The candle

burns in memory of a loved one for the week

you choose for a $10 offering. Please call the

Rectory to schedule your intention. If you

would like to donate flowers for the altar at St.

Mary’s, please call Dianne Franz at 992-9159 for details.

When the 2021 Mass Intention book becomes available, there

will be an announcement in the bulletin. Thank you for your

    overwhelming response and generosity!

    PARENTS OF RELIGIOUS ED. STUDENTS:

Our Religious Education program is closely connected

with participation in each Holy Mass every Sunday.

Learning religion and attending Holy Mass each Sunday

is one whole. If you decide to send your child to our

Parish, you commit yourself to the fact

that your child will also attend Holy

Mass every Saturday/Sunday and on Ho-

ly Days of Obligation. There is no

    teaching of religion without participation

in the Mass. This is an obligation for all

students who want to attend our pro-

gram. Please help your child to attend Mass. Religious

Education classes will be held on Sundays, and Confir-

mation Classes will start in October 2020. Thank you

    for your cooperation, Fr. Peter

    RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM:

Registration for Rel. Ed. classes will be held on Sun-

day, September 8th, before and after the Sunday Mass-

es. Classes will begin on Sunday, September 15th.

Also, we still need 1 teacher.

PARISH COUNCIL October 1, 2019 will be the last day for our current Parish

Financial Council. Thank you so much to all our mem-

bers for your many years of service to our Parish. God

Bless you all. At the same time, I am establishing a new

Financial Council which will begin its service for our Par-

ish on October 2, 2019. Members of the

new Financial Council will be published

as soon as possible in the parish bulletin

    and on our website.

We are the church. ~Fr. Peter

SATURDAY, AUGUST 31st - 4:00 MASS Parishioners are invited to share fellowship

and hot dogs following this Mass. They will

be served in the side parking lot. In case of

rain, please gather in the school.

    NEW DOORS WILL BE COMING

We now have enough funding to purchase

the new doors for St. John’s. Thank you; I

truly appreciate your efforts to improve our

church. May God bless you in your whole-

    hearted generosity. ~Fr. Peter
